Accreditation body

The ITIL® Expert certification can be offered by any accredited ITIL® body. However, the credential is best received from known bodies all over the world and their affiliates. It is important to note that some of these bodies offer both the course and present the accreditation while others offer only accreditation. It is also important to note that the ITIL® Expert level is a very crucial stage in the entirety of the ITIL® scheme. Eligibility Requirements

The ITIL® Expert level qualification has some possible faculties from the ITIL® framework that one can choose from in order to gain this highly-regarded certification. But before one can explore these modules, it is better to note the qualifications first:
    1. Any candidate who wishes to attain the certification in ITIL® Expert Level must have the ITIL certification or have a bridge qualification equivalent.

ITIL® Foundation Training

  1. Qualified candidates must be able to prove they have acquired a minimum of 17 credits from both the ITIL® Foundation Level and Intermediate Level modules.
  2. The 17 credits can also be accommodated from credits earned by previous qualifications and other complementary qualifications.
  3. After gathering the 17 credits and other complementary credits, a candidate must then pass a certification known as Managing Across the Lifecycle (MALC) faculty and get a total of 22 credits as the minimum required level in the ITIL® Expert Level certification.
Once a candidate manages to complete all the required ITIL® modules and achieved the minimum required credits, they are then considered to have achieved an acceptable knowledge across all the ITIL® faculties to be able to handle the ITIL® Expert Level.

Certification process

As mentioned above in the qualification, a viable candidate needs to go through a series of qualifications, achieve a minimum acceptable number of credits and then be granted the certificate. Apart from training and taking an exam in MALC, candidates who hold the Service Manager or Practitioner qualifications can take advantage of these certificates to qualify for the ITIL® Expert Level. ITIL® works on a credit-based system based on Blooms Taxonomy. ITIL® foundation is at Bloom's level 1&2 and provides the candidate with 2 credits. ITIL® intermediate is at Bloom's Taxonomy level 3&4 and provides the candidate with 3 credits each if they choose Life-cycle stream and 4 credits each if they choose Capability Stream. Life-cycle Stream has 5 papers, and Capability Stream has 4 papers. The MALC provides the candidate with 5 Credits and is at Bloom's Taxonomy level 5&6.
In all 20 credits are required to be certified as ITIL® expert.

Exam Format

Its main purpose is to help a candidate use and integrate their ITIL® knowledge in real-world settings and at your own personal level. The examination takes a format of multiple-choice questions of up to 50 questions. There are 10 questions for each paper, and a candidate needs to score 35 out of the possible 50 marks – that’s about 70% marks. The exam is a closed-book format and takes up to 120 minutes to complete.

Retaking the Exam

All candidates who wish to achieve the ITIL® Expert certification need to pass the MALC examination as the final step towards successful candidacy. It’s, therefore, important for one to be keen while taking up the test. Careful training and experience are required. However, if for one reason a candidate is unable to perform excellently, then they have the option of letting their exam providers know. This will then make the exam and training providers highlight the part of the syllabus the candidate did not pass so well. The exam can be retaken by paying the examination fee for another test.
