An entrepreneur at heart, Mireille Davis had always wanted to be a leader for the digital age, pulling people together to drive business initiatives for organizations. She’s worn multiple hats, having worked as a Procedure Writer, Entity Specialist, Sales Manager, and CEO. But when she was hired as a Business Development Manager at a biotech company, she realized that she needed to sharpen her digital skills to reach her full potential. After a quick round of research, Mireille settled on Simplilearn’s Digital Marketing training program. Armed with the skills she learned in the course, Mireille was able to leverage her new-look skillset to become the digital expert at her company.


Tell us a little about yourself for our readers.

My name is Mireille Davis, and I work as a Business Development Manager at Phalanx Biotech, in San Diego, California. I’ve been business-oriented and entrepreneurial for as long as I can remember; I founded and ran my own acoustic products company between 2001 and 2008. I have worked in sales and marketing for most of my career.

What encouraged you to partner with Simplilearn?

My current job at PhalanxBio is very similar to the one I had as the CEO of my own company. I am the driving force of the U.S. sales office and lead a team in finding customers and developing relationships with scientists in the U.S. and internationally. PhalanxBio relies on me to be a leader and guide not only my own sales team but the entire company to keep up in the rapidly changing digital landscape. 

My role as a marketing leader has changed dramatically over the last few years, and I have had to adapt and learn a myriad of new technologies to stay relevant. 

Over the years, I’ve honed my marketing and sales skills by working in different industries. I’ve worked for utilities, financial institutions, and biotech companies.

But the business environment today is very different from the one I entered as a college graduate. Although I’ve succeeded at all my jobs in the past, I realized I needed to learn more to continue to be successful in the future. To be precise, I needed to learn how to leverage new technology to be an effective manager and businessperson. After digging around, I decided that becoming a certified Digital Marketer was the best way to do that.

In your opinion, how has digital technology changed the business environment?

I love business because of the challenge it presents to keep up with the latest trends. On the web, I was the best salesperson with a great strategy – until someone else took the top spot. So what did they figure out that I hadn’t?

Plenty of people must have felt this way when the digital revolution happened; I know I did! So I decided to be proactive and looked for ways to improve my digital skills. That’s how I discovered Simplilearn’s Digital Marketing certification training course.

How did Simplilearn’s Digital Marketing training course help you?

I was immediately able to benefit from Simplilearn’s Digital Marketing program. My prior web design information was somewhat dated, but in this course, I learned everything I need to know about how SEO can be integrated into a WordPress website. This was enormously helpful as we are overhauling our company website at the time. Because of my up-to-date skills, my company looked to me to direct the website redesign.

The course also taught me the latest keyword optimization techniques. This helped me improve our AdWords campaign and pitch additional lab services to our customers. This led to an influx of new leads and sales in an area that we hadn’t previously considered. I also knew nothing about InDisplay and InStream ads until I took this class; I’ve run campaigns for both types now!

I am now the manager who is the company expert in Digital Marketing. I run our email and paid search campaigns. I have created ad campaigns with great click through rates. Most importantly, I am now confident that the sales and marketing initiatives I’m pushing for are cutting-edge and can deliver results.

I’ve recently been sponsored by my employer, and invited by Wordstream, to go to Google Headquarters for a full day of learning and one-on-one coaching by Wordstream and Google experts. My CEO was convinced by my achievements and decided that investing in my career is investing in the company’s future. This was a direct result of my becoming a Digital Marketing Certified Associate. What did you like most about the Digital Marketing course?

Simplilearn’s classes were easy-to-follow and had professional study materials and templates that I could adapt later for projects. This was a lifesaver! The personal mentoring was also amazing. I was never stuck in the weeds trying to solve a tricky problem with no guidance.
