As documented by Ridhi Sarda

I am an American learner who upskilled with the Professional Certificate in Digital Supply Chain Management offered by Simplilearn in collaboration with Purdue University. I have had a widespread professional career over a span of about 15 years and includes working with TCS, Cognizant, and other companies. I aim to become a C-level executive in the future and am confident that my enriched skill set, when coupled with my zeal to keep improving my performance, will help me to reach those goals.

Professional Journey

My professional career started in 2007 as a management trainee. I worked in TCS for almost nine years in various positions, starting as an analyst in India and finishing as a consultant in the US. I have worked in multiple countries: India, US, UK, and Thailand. In 2016, I joined Cognizant, where I took up several roles, including a product manager role in 2020. I worked in software consulting for about 13 years and now I am working in the logistics area.

In my current job, I work as a product manager at a logistics technology company called RXO. My product management professional experience includes working with manufacturing, retail industries in warranty management, ecommerce, supply chain, and after sales process areas.

After I earned my MBA and APICS certification, I was looking for something more to fill the gap. I evaluated a few options, but I liked the focus that Simplilearn provided. Also, the collaboration with Purdue university led me towards Simplilearn.

I knew that upskilling was the solution for getting back to work after the pandemic, so I enrolled in the Professional Certificate in Digital Supply Chain Management offered by Simplilearn in collaboration with Purdue University. I wanted to improve my performance and enhance my skills to be able to restart my professional career again.

How the Course Helped

Since I am in the logistics industry, it is easy for me to grasp the industry terminology, and it’s easier for me to understand what is going on in the minds of my teammates or my clients. It’s easier for me to understand how a business could potentially be run.
I am also researching several things in the market. The understanding of supply chain really helps me to understand the different kinds of business and operation logistics, and in turn, helps me design better products because I understand the users and the processes.

Overall Experience

I had a great learning experience with this program. The curriculum is great and so is the interaction in the class. Apart from the comprehensive course material, I learnt so much from my peers, as they came from different backgrounds and geographies, offering a lot of multidisciplinarity learning. One of the best features of the course is the blended learning model, which enables flexible learning and making the most out of the live sessions. I also really like the depth of the course and the rigorous curriculum, and the support was tremendously helpful.

Career Impact

Initially, I was working and then I was in between jobs. I accepted a new role after earning this certification, so in a way, it was like a 100 percent salary increase. The program strengthened my product management skills and helped me restart my professional career with more knowledge.

Balancing Work and Family

I am a working mother; I live with my husband and my daughter, and he really supports me. Taking care of a five year-old, working, and focusing on health is difficult, but we manage somehow. Being a supply chain professional has helped me manage and organize things better. I try to automate things at home and use gadgets and technology to make our work easier.

Looking to the Future

Hopefully, in five years, I see myself as a director of product; in 10 years, I would aspire to be vice president or president of product. I love the supply chain industry because it is so niche and unorganized, so there is a lot of room for opportunity and growth.

My Message For the Working Professional

I think you have to be positive and strong, especially women. There are so many battles we have to fight, professionally and emotionally. You have to take advantage of the ecosystem you are in, and manage your situation and make the best of it. Try to delegate as much as possible.
