Christina Stormson is the founder and partner at Pink Iguana, a company that offers website management, lead and review generation services for franchised painting contractors. What started as a quest to master fundamental skills in website development and SEO paved Christina’s way into the world of entrepreneurship. Simplilearn - Market Motive's Online Marketing Fundamentals Training - Foundations Pass training armed her with the skills and confidence she needed to envision and build a profitable business.

Building a Foundation

Christina was a franchisee owner at CertaPro Painters and was running her business out of Las Vegas. Things were going well until the economic crisis hit in 2008. By 2009, remaining in that business was not an option for Christina, so she headed for San Francisco to start over.

She looked for opportunities when another paint franchisee owner asked her for help with their website. As she began looking at their online marketing challenges, she realized there was a huge opportunity to build a service business in online marketing. She knew what the business owners did on a daily basis, what their clients’ questions were, what their marketing strategy was. She realized she was in a unique position to be able to speak to any potential client about their business and not just about their website. She started working with the franchisee’s company for about a year and a half when her old contacts at CertaPro sought her help to create an online presence for the company’s business.

“I had the skills and experience working as a webmaster but lacked the understanding of SEO and digital marketing—what they really were, what they could do and how to do it correctly. That’s when I found Market Motive and signed up for their guided course,” recalls Christina.

Market Motive was acquired by Simplilearn in 2015 and maintains the same marketing courses, instructors, and content today under the new name.

Taking Initiative

Christina liked Market Motive's course structure. The learning path offered a 360 degree perspective into digital marketing with foundational courses in SEO, mobile marketing, PPC, email marketing and website analytics.

“The traditional training programs were not flexible enough for one reason or another. I needed the freedom to learn at my own pace, on my own schedule, and from anywhere, and Simplilearn offers that flexibility,” she says.

Christina loved being able to have access to the instructors at Simplilearn as they are thought leaders in the industry. Their knowledge and availability were really exciting for Christina as she navigated the nuances of modern digital marketing.

“I compared a few training companies and had been reading industry blogs for a bit. I researched the course instructors, read some of their blogs and books and liked that they were industry leaders,” she says.

While she underwent the training, Christina was also working with small businesses and her data set was smaller than those of larger businesses. But she was able to discuss her clients’ digital challenges with the instructors and understand how she would use the information in a meaningful way.

“I understood what great SEO was and what was not. I gained skills that would help optimize my clients’ websites. I learned how to measure the outcomes of my decisions on a website and be able to communicate what that meant to my clients,” she says.

Putting the Knowledge to Test

In 2010, Christina started Pink Iguana Services, a digital marketing partner that offers digital marketing services for franchised home services contractors, and develops reputation management apps for over 200 clients in the U.S. and Canada.

Pink Iguana Services is a 10 member strong team that includes account managers and technicians who have all taken Simplilearn’s training in SEO, PPC, and website optimization.

“Online learning for you and your employees will keep your business ahead of the game,” Christina says.
