What is PHP String Function?

The term "string" refers to a series of characters. PHP supports a number of data types, including strings. Alphanumeric characters are allowed in string variables. When these conditions are met, strings are generated. It is possible to create a variable and assign it to string characters. With the echo argument, using PHP Strings directly. String functions in PHP are language constructs that aid in the capture of terms.

String Functions

According to string functions in php, in programming languages, string functions are used to modify a string or query knowledge about a string (some do both).... The length (string) function is the most basic example of a string function. The length of a string literal is returned by this function.

Importance of Using String Functions in PHP

1. Finding Length of a String

Which is also one basic type of Built in string Functions in PHP. The length of a string can be determined using a predefined function in PHP. The strlen() function returns the length of any string. It's most widely used in input fields where the user can only type a certain number of characters.

Syntax:

Strlen(String);

Code:

<!DOCTYPE html>

<html>

<body>

<?php

echostrlen('Welcome to string functions in php');//will return the length of given string

?>

</body>

</html>

Output:

StringFunctionsinPHP_1

2. Counting Number of Words in String

str word count is another feature that displays the number of words in a given string (). Validation of input fields is also possible with this feature.

Syntax:

Str_word_count(String)

Code:

<!DOCTYPE html>

<html>

<body>

<?php

echostr_word_count('Welcome to string functions in php');//return the number of words in an String

?>

</body>

</html>

Output:

StringFunctionsinPHP_2

3. Reversing a String

This is one of the basic string functions in phpStrrev() is a function that reverses a string. This function can be used to get the reverse version of any string.

Syntax:

Strrev(String)

Code:

<!DOCTYPE html>

<html>

<body>

<?php

echostrrev('Welcome to string functions in php');//return the number of words in an String

?>

</body>

</html>

Output:

StringFunctionsinPHP_3

4. Searching Text in String

Strpos() allows you to check for specific text within a string. It works by simply matching a string's basic text. If a match is found, the location is returned. It will return "False" if the item is not found at all. Strops() is widely used to validate input fields such as email addresses.

Syntax:

Strops(String,text);

Code:

<!DOCTYPE html>

<html>

<body>

<?php

echostrpos('Welcome to string functions in php','string');

?>

</body>

</html>

Output:

StringFunctionsinPHP_4.

5. Replacing Text in a String

Strreplace() is a built-in function that allows you to replace specific text in a string.

Syntax:

Str_replace((string to be replaced,text,string)

Code:

<!DOCTYPE html>

<html>

<body>

<?php

echostr_replace('java', 'php', 'Welcome to java');

?>

</body>

</html>

Output:

StringFunctionsinPHP_5

6. Converting Lowercase into Title Case

Ucwords() is a function that converts the first letter of each word to uppercase.

Syntax:

Ucwords(string);

Code:

<!DOCTYPE html>

<html>

<body>

<?php

echoucwords('Welcome to PHP');

?>

</body>

</html>

Output:

StringFunctionsinPHP_6

7. Converting a Whole String into UPPERCASE and lowercase

Strtoupper() used to convert all string characters into upper

Strtolower() used to convert all string characters into lower

Syntax:

Strtoupper(String);

Strtolower(String);

Code:

<!DOCTYPE html>

<html>

<body>

<?php

echostrtoupper('Welcome to PHP');

echostrtolower('Welcome to PHP');

?>

</body>

</html>

Output:

StringFunctionsinPHP_7.

8. Comparing String

strcmp can be used to compare two strings (). It produces output that is either greater than, less than, or equal to zero. It returns greater than zero if string 1 is greater than string 2. It returns less than zero if string 1 is less than string 2. If the strings are equal, it returns zero.

Syntax:

Strcmp(string1,string2)

Code:

<!DOCTYPE html>

<html>

<body>

<?php

echostrcmp("hi","hi");

echo '<br>';

?>

</body>

</html>

Output:

StringFunctionsinPHP_8

Sample code for Str_contains():

<?php

$string = 'The lazy fox jumped over the fence';

if (str_contains($string, 'lazy')) {

echo "The string 'lazy' was found in the string\n";

}

if (str_contains($string, 'Lazy')) {

echo 'The string "Lazy" was found in the string';

} else {

echo '"Lazy" was not found because the case does not match';

}

?>

Output:

StringFunctionsinPHP_9

substr

Returns a portion of the string. There are three (3) essential criteria that it embraces. The first parameter specifies the length of the string to be shortened, the second specifies the starting point, and the third specifies the number of characters to be returned.

Str_replace

In a given string, this function is used to find and replace stated string values. Three arguments are accepted by the function. The text to be replaced is the first argument, the replacement text is the second argument, and the text to be evaluated is the third argument.

PHP Heredoc

When compared to double quotes, this heredoc technique is used to generate fairly complex strings. The heredoc implements all of the features of double quotes and allows you to create multi-line string values without using PHP string concatenation.When you use double quotes to build strings of several lines, you'll get an error.It can also use double quotes without escaping them on the inside.

Conclusion

String is a set of letters, numbers, special characters, and arithmetic values, or a mix of them. To make a string, enclose the string literal (i.e. string characters) in single quotation marks ('), Use double quotation marks if you want to be more formal ("). Single and double quotation marks, on the other hand, act in various ways. Single-quote strings are treated almost literally, while double-quote strings replace variables with string representations of their values, as well as interpreting those escape sequences specifically.Many built-in functions for manipulating strings are available in PHP, including measuring a string's length, finding substrings or characters, replacing part of a string with different characters, breaking a string apart, and many more.When opposed to single quotes, double quotes are used to build more complicated strings.Variable names may be enclosed in double quotes, and the values of such variables will be shown.The PHP string functions are built into the heart of PHP. These functions do not need any installation. If you are interested in learning python functions such as PHP date-time function, inheritance, and more, check out our PHP tutorial.
