Introduction

I’m currently working as an AI ML Engineer at Navgurukul, but my journey here wasn’t a straight line. I started my career as a Junior Java Developer after my Bachelor’s and Master’s in Electronics and Telecommunications, worked in Java for about three and a half years, and then moved into blockchain technology during the COVID period. When the blockchain job market turned unstable, I decided to pivot into AI and Machine Learning, and to build real expertise there, I enrolled in the Professional Certificate Course in Generative AI and Machine Learning, offered in collaboration with IIT Kanpur through Simplilearn.

Need for Upskilling

The transition wasn’t easy. I had a professional gap of over two years, and despite attending interviews with more than 20 companies, including Wipro, Infosys, and Tata Consultancy Services, I kept getting turned down because of that gap and my lack of hands-on AI/ML experience. I already had a growing interest in Data Science and Machine Learning, and I knew AI was where future opportunities would be, so I needed a structured program that could give me real technical depth rather than just surface-level knowledge.

Learning Experience

My learning experience was practical and genuinely engaging. I came out with solid skills in Python, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, SQL, and Data Science, and the added career workshops and interview-focused sessions gave me a real confidence boost alongside the technical learning.

Career Impact

Resume-building support helped me restructure my profile, which noticeably improved recruiter responses on LinkedIn and Naukri, while LinkedIn optimization and mock interviews sharpened both my visibility and my confidence in technical interviews. Despite my career gap and lack of prior AI/ML experience, this combined support helped me finally secure a role as an AI & ML Engineer and successfully restart my career in the AI/ML domain.

Conclusion

Looking back, this journey reminded me that a career gap doesn’t have to be the end of the story, it can just be the pause before a new direction. My long-term goal now is to keep growing in AI and Machine Learning and eventually move into a senior role like Senior AI Engineer, Data Scientist, or AI/ML Lead. After hopping across Java, blockchain, and now AI, I’m finally ready to stay focused and build something lasting in this space.
