Introduction

With a foundation in computer science and years of professional experience in the banking sector, I built my career by solving complex customer issues, ensuring data security, and consistently delivering service excellence. Although I thrived in my roles, I knew I wanted to transition into a field that aligned more closely with my technical strengths. This clarity eventually led me toward cybersecurity—a domain where my curiosity, analytical thinking, and problem-solving mindset could truly flourish.

Reason to Upskill

Even after earning foundational certifications like ISC² Certified in Cybersecurity and CompTIA Security+, I realized I still lacked the practical confidence needed to excel in the industry. Cybersecurity is fast-evolving and demands not just theoretical understanding but hands-on expertise. To bridge this gap and fully prepare myself for an entry-level role, I decided to pursue comprehensive, structured training that would sharpen my skills and make me industry-ready.

Learning Experience

The Professional Certificate Program in Cybersecurity delivered by Simplilearn in Partnership with Purdue University proved to be the perfect next step. The instructors simplified complex concepts using real-world examples, allowing me to grasp advanced topics with ease. The program’s emphasis on labs, projects, and over 60+ practical exercises gave me extensive exposure to tools, threats, and scenarios I would encounter in real-time environments. It strengthened not just my technical abilities but also my research mindset and critical reasoning—core strengths every cybersecurity professional needs.

Course Impact

The transformation I experienced has been remarkable. Equipped with new skills and confidence, I completed an internship and even secured a spot among the top 2,000 participants out of over 1 million in the U.S. Department of Defence Cyber Sentinel Challenge. I was also selected for the Women in Cybersecurity Vulnerability Disclosure Program—an achievement that further validated my growth. Today, I can analyse threats, solve challenges, and contribute meaningfully to cybersecurity projects. This program empowered me with the readiness and boldness to step confidently into the cybersecurity field.
