Meet Mireille Davis and Girish Pai, two aspiring digital marketers who share a desire to succeed and the diligence to conquer new challenges in the world of business.
Mireille and Girish met by mere coincidence after completing Digital Marketing Certified Associate training (DMCA) at Simplilearn, and together they co-founded HitbySEO, a “Growth Hacking & Digital Marketing” agency based in Bangalore, India with offices in San Diego, California.
HitbySEO specializes in growth marketing and has been helping startups in verticals like commerce, innovation consultancy, Media platforms & BMS (Building management and system integration) to acquire, activate & retain customers and grow their online businesses.
Mireille and Girish had two different motives for seeking education from Simplilearn. Here is their story of how they met and how it altered the course of their careers forever.
Mireille Davis spent over 10 years in business development specializing in contract negotiation and sales.
“Over the years, I have done different things,” says Davis. “ I have been a technical writer, I have run several businesses including my own company called Extreme Soundproofing.”
Girish Pai, an IIM Kozhikode graduate, spent 13 years in the IT and telecom industry, lending his expertise to global business development and product management before realizing his passion for digital marketing and growth hacking.
Different Paths, Similar Learning Goals
Mireille was always interested in digital marketing. She started her first business in 2001 and created a website at a time when the term ‘digital marketing’ wasn’t so well known. Mireille had used Google AdWords for her different businesses, but she wanted to update her skills, stay relevant and gain knowledge about the new tools and techniques that are being used in digital marketing today. While searching for a suitable course, Mireille found Simplilearn. The course structure and depth of content prompted her to sign up for Simplilearn’s Digital Marketing Certified Associate course.
“I opted for guided training and was pleasantly surprised that I learned so much more than expected in those classes,” explained Davis. “The instructor was thorough and really explained digital marketing in depth. It was very exciting for me to attend the interactive classes, and I could take the classes from anywhere.”
The structure of the course perfectly fit her learning style and the classes motivated her. She recalls leaving each class with a determination to do something new.
Every class also came with a list of tools that are useful in digital marketing, and she fondly remembers how useful the tools were.
“I love this organization, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in furthering their education. It is good for people who have a busy life. Whenever you have the time, you can attend these classes. The reference material that is provided is excellent, and people can print it out and refer to it later. The courses at Simplilearn show how you can cross global barriers with a little bit of effort, and how productive and useful that can be for aspiring entrepreneurs around the world.”
Girish, on the other hand, ventured into his first start-up, a hyper-local online grocery store called Combyn, that connected consumers with grocery stores in their neighborhood. He was having trouble building an online audience, so he decided to update his digital marketing skills.
Girish decided to take a course in digital marketing. He shortlisted courses from different training providers based on two parameters: quality and depth of content, and the price. Girish opted for a self-paced course in digital marketing and enrolled for Simplilearn’s Digital Marketing Certified Associate.
The project-based work and instructive videos that were part of Simplilearn’s course helped Girish maintain a strong pace through the classes, and his interest grew with each session.
“The best parts were the hands-on projects that helped me map my learnings from the theory sessions and apply them on my website,” said Pai. “I loved the flow of the content, and it was easy to focus on the topics that I really wanted to pay attention to. Effective mentoring also helped me reach my learning goals.”
Girish and Mireille were new to digital marketing before they took the course at Simplilearn. By the time their respective classes were complete, they each achieved enough confidence in the field to effectively apply it to their roles.
The two alumni became acquainted on Quora, a question-and-answer forum, and discovered that they had each taken the Simplilearn course. They shared similar thoughts and ideas, and a passion for digital marketing.
Despite the 8,000-mile distance between them, Girish and Mireille launched HitbySEO. While still in its infancy, the company boasts consultations on growth hacking, SEO, PPC, conversion rate optimization (CRO), social media marketing, and web design, and has seen early success among its clients.
