As documented by Anirban Tewary
I’ve always been an eager learner. As the current deputy vice president of risk and governance for Axis Bank in Mumbai, I’ve successfully climbed the career ladder by upskilling whenever I see a need.
With nearly 19 years of varied experience in IT, I’ve never turned away from a challenge. After many years in corporate, I realized that I needed an MBA to achieve my career goals. I earned a postgraduate diploma in management, finance, and corporate strategy from the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode.
Turning To Simplilearn and Purdue to Learn Data Science
Next, I found the need to sharpen my understanding of data science. My current role demands a lot of understanding of data. I wanted to be self-dependent in terms of understanding and interpreting data and machine learning. I have also been interested in data science. So I decided to enroll in Simplilearn’s Post Graduate in Data Science program.
Simplilearn’s Post Graduate in Data Science teaches essential subjects like machine learning algorithms, R, Python, NLP concepts, and programming data visualization with Tableau. Simplilearn offers the flexibility of online learning with an interactive learning model featuring live sessions with data science experts. It also provides practical labs, IBM hackathons, and industry projects. The program was ranked #1 by Economic Times and was created in partnership with Purdue University and in collaboration with IBM.

My Upskilling Journey With Simplearn
Taking the course was a transformative journey. To manage the course load, I dedicated time over the weekends with a lot of support from my family. Though at times it was difficult to balance the course with my job demands, Simplilearn’s instructors were always very supportive and understanding. The program gave me good insight into understanding data, machine learning, and other technical topics such as Python, R, and statistics.
Now that I’ve completed my data science training, I’m prepared to make a giant leap in my career. I am now planning to make a career switch outside India to either the U.S., U.K., or Germany. I am pretty confident that with my newly acquired skill set, it will be easy for me to move ahead with the plan.
