The Journey 

After completing my BTech, I joined Larsen and Toubro as a data quality analyst for three months. After completing my MTech, I joined CDAC as a project engineer. Here, I worked on smart healthcare and agriculture products. I also taught students programming courses based on Python, C++, and Linux. As I was deeply interested in AI, machine learning, and deep learning, I decided to pursue a course in data science. I completed my certificate with Simplilearn and landed a job with MattsenKumar as a lead business analyst.

The Challenge 

I was keen on learning in-depth. However, as a working professional, finding a course that would provide training as per my requirements was difficult. I needed a course that would polish my fundamentals and help me learn the latest tools without disturbing my work-study balance. My Career Journey So Far

I started my career in 2017, working as an Analyst at Capgemini. After working for 3+ years there, I decided to upskill myself in the field of Business Analytics. My Career Journey So Far

I got a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems from King Faisal University in 2015. After that, I started working as an SAP HCM Consultant at Al Muhaidib Group. Over the years, I gained professional experience in enhancing an organisation, making processes more efficient, and solving problems effectively. I have professional knowledge and experience in ARB systems, development, implementation, user support, and practice.

At present, I am a Senior Application Specialist at the Saudi Industrial Development Fund – SIDF. I am a corporate department head and develop and implement extensive projects.

The Challenge

My main objectives behind searching for courses in data analysis were growth and excellence, and earning a better position or job. If I upskilled, I would have the chance to assist in newer projects. As I was working full-time, I needed online courses with flexible timings to learn at my own pace.

Sometimes in life, you get stuck and complacent, which often happens when working. Once we enter a comfort zone, we are reluctant to leave it. This is what happened to me; I was comfortable working in my job until I realized that it no longer made me happy. That’s when I decided to actually upskill and change my career.

The Journey

I graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Mumbai and pursued an MBA from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies in Finance and Operations in 2018. With a working experience of 10+ years, I am currently working as a Project Manager- Data Science & Analytics at EXL. My work experience has revolved around as a Techno-Commercial Project Manager with 10+ years working in the MEP Project Management industry. 

I am skilled in Planning & Procurement, Design, Techno-commercial activities, Financial Analysis, Subcontractors’ Billing Reconciliation Processes, and Senior Management Communications. After working for years in the Construction Project management domain. 

After working for almost 9 years in the Project Management Construction domain, I realized that it’s a hectic job. I couldn’t maintain a work-life balance, so I researched and decided to shift to the Data Science domain. During my MBA, I also learned statistics and analytics, so I wanted to utilize those skills and transition in my career.

The Simplilearn Course

 I opted for the Data Scientist Masters Program from Simplilearn to upskill myself. Moreover, I also Simplilearn’s Artificial Intelligence Engineer Master’s Program and studied both courses simultaneously. 

The course from Simplilearn was an excellent platform for me to develop my knowledge from scratch, especially coming from a non-IT industry professional. After completing the course, I developed an excellent knowledge and understanding of the Data Science domain.

A gap in your resume is never a good sign, at least that’s what we’ve always been told. However, this time a gap in my resume actually helped me start my journey towards my dream career. Here’s where it all started.

The Journey:

After finishing college in 2017 as a Mechanical Engineer, I worked as an intern at a Machine manufacturing company, after which I got a job offer as a Jr. Design Engineer at a service-based company in Vadodara, Gujarat. After working there for 1.5 years, I shifted into the sales field, where I worked as a Sales Engineer for 1.5 years. However, sadly, due to a back injury, I had to quit and focus on my health.

After I decided to get back in the field, I got a job offer as a Business Development Executive. My joining date was supposed to be April 1st, 2020; however, due to the pandemic, it got pushed to mid-August. Even then, I worked in a remote capacity, which was quite tricky. I also could not attend my treatment and physical therapy sessions, which were put on hold due to the pandemic. 

The Simplilearn Course

While I was still recovering from my injury and I was stuck at home due to the pandemic, I decided to better myself. I had already shifted my professions three times, and this time I wanted to commit to something and work on developing my career. My dream had always been to become a sports analyst, specifically a football analyst. So, a career in Data Analytics seemed natural. 

I already had coding skills due to my engineering background and business skills due to a business development job. However, I needed to learn the basics of data analytics. My friend suggested that I do a course from Simplilearn. I went through the website and course brochures, and they looked promising. So I started the Professional Certificate in Data Analytics and Generative AI delivered by Simplilearn. 

I loved the fact you can choose your own pace of learning. Since I already knew how to code, I completed all the material in only 4 months, whereas in a traditional course, I would have had to follow their curriculum for at least a year. I even got the opportunity to start doing freelance jobs in the data analytics field.

I was born and raised in Iran, earned my bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees in Malaysia, and now am a director and research professor at the Tecnológico de Monterrey University in Mexico. My wide travels, education, and training brought me to a prestigious position leading a team of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) experts. Our university team is training more than 11,000 faculty nationwide in AI and ML research.

However, my ­­­education background is founded in physics, chemistry, and medicine. As a physicist and chemist, I have worked in chemical engineering, and I am actively developing bio-sensors for the early diagnosis of infectious diseases. 

Our team is active in the educational field, but I believe that raising my understanding of AI and ML would give me the confidence to be a more successful leader. I resolved to learn AI and ML skills.

I enrolled in Simplilearn’s Data Science Program. I found that the knowledge and discipline the course offers provide an excellent interface between what my team does, which is in the education field, and what I can do in the healthcare and medicine fields. It is empowering to be able to guide my team and express my opinion. 

My education with Simplilearn thus far has been rewarding, and I have especially enjoyed working with my ML instructor, Mr. Amit. This experience has inspired me to start and edit an international journal on AI and ML.

The Value of Upskilling 

The knowledge I gained from the Program is a game-changer for me. I wanted to learn statistics and the types of analysis we can perform with data-generated insights.

Also, in my area of education, there is a considerable emphasis on upskilling the workforce to remain job-relevant. We are writing a lot of thought leadership materials and articles highlighting the importance of upskilling. I am even involved in a project with many Inter-American development organizations, where they commission us to upskill the southern part of Mexico.

Using Time Management 

Finding the time to study was a big challenge for me, but I managed somehow. This last semester, I had to adjust by taking weekend classes. I look forward to completing the final stage of the course, which is Tableau, Power BI, and the capstone project.

Working in the public health sector, I deal with data daily. I am originally from Nigeria, where I started my career, but when I came to Canada, I found that the work environment and how they manage data are slightly different. Naturally, I wanted to fit in and be current with the field’s latest trends, so I enrolled in Simplilearn’s Data Analyst Master’s Program. I also believed it would help me improve at my job.

Manage Data Better 

Data is everywhere, and it is vital to make informed decisions, especially in the public health sector. When I started working in the Malaria Consortium as a monitoring and evaluation officer in 2017, it was my first experience dealing with data where I had to collect, read, and analyze data daily. 

I have been working with the Nova Scotia Health Authority for one year as an administrative assistant to the research director. My work involves dealing with and analyzing data shared with policymakers.
