A Solid IT Background, But It Needed More

As documented by Mario Scott

I have almost a decade of experience working in an enterprise environment designing, planning, implementing, and scaling high-quality solutions that run on Azure and AWS Cloud Services. I have worked with numerous organizations, notably as a system administrator, cloud engineer, and database engineer.

One of my most valued work experiences was with the U.S. Army as an operations manager, and I consider it one of the most significant periods of my professional journey.

While working as a cloud engineer at EyeQ Monitoring, I realized the potential in DevOps and wanted to explore that as a career opportunity. So, I started looking for new job opportunities in that domain. However, DevOps requires certain skills I didn’t possess at the time. So, I decided to upskill myself, enhance my knowledge, and finally land a new job in this exciting and growing field.

All I needed was to find the right platform.

Why Simplilearn Was the Right Choice

The Azure Solutions Architect Course helped me immensely in my career growth. Everything about the course was fantastic. My personal favorite features had to be the practice labs and hands-on experience. Those elements added so much more practical understanding to the whole learning experience. Overall, the course was great, and so was the entire team behind it.

The Course’s Benefits Made My New Career Possible

Just as I had intended at the start of my upskilling journey, I landed a new job at DealerOps as a DevOps engineer. Additionally, my salary increased by 50 percent. Not only that, but my confidence as a professional has also grown significantly, and I am now more confident and believe in myself to deliver my best in my work.

It stands to reason that, the more skills you have, the more job positions you qualify for. And the more job positions you qualify for, the more control and choices you have over where you work. A healthy skill set means more options all around, which leads to greater job satisfaction and a happier home life.

That’s what I discovered during my experience finding the best IT job that gave me the ideal work-home balance I was looking for. Fortunately, Simplilearn gave me the advantages I needed, especially with their Cloud Architect Master’s Program.

A Bit About My Background

I am an IT professional with almost 15 years of related experience, which I’ve always tried to supplement by upskilling myself to stay current with the never-ending parade of new technologies.

There were not many IT opportunities in the Philippines, my native country, so in 2008 I moved to Saudi Arabia for IT-related work. I worked in Saudi Arabia for almost 14 years with a series of IT companies. I missed my family and my home and wanted to move back to the Philippines, but the job choices were limited.

The Challenge: Qualifying for a Better Job Closer to Home

If I wanted to work closer to home, I’d have to ensure that I was qualified for the right positions. As I mentioned before, I always made a good effort at upskilling and keeping up with new IT innovations. I knew there were ample opportunities in the field of cloud computing. I was working in a similar field and yes, I was in touch with cloud technology.

But I realized that it wasn’t enough. I needed a streamlined course that could effectively increase my cloud-related skill set. I was also on the lookout for better opportunities. I really wanted to get a good IT position closer to home.

All I needed was a step in the right direction, and that’s where Simplilearn came into the picture.

Today’s technological innovations arrive at a breathtaking pace, and if you want to stay relevant and employable, you need to keep up. It also helps to stay current if you’re planning on tackling a new career. That’s where upskilling comes in. When you upskill, you build upon your current skillset with new knowledge.

But there are so many available avenues for upskilling. Perhaps too many! How does one make the right choice?

As it happens, I made the right choice when I picked Simplilearn’s Cloud Computing program. But in order for you to get a good idea of how I arrived at this choice, let me tell you a little bit about myself.

My Background

I’m a Product Manager from Mumbai, with over 13 years of experience, with a Master of Computer Applications (MCA) in Computer Science from the School of Computer Science, DAVV. I also completed a Post Graduate Program in Management, Business Administration and Management, General from Sunstone Business School.

I had already used Simplilearn before for training. I took their PMI-ACP Certification Training Course and had a good experience with it. I was impressed with how they acted quickly to resolve any issues I raised, and they provided all the assistance I needed. So yes, I already was leaning favorably towards Simplilearn, and with good reason!

I have worked in IT for more than a decade now. When I decided to look for new job opportunities, I first enrolled in Simplilearn’s Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate AZ-104. This course helped me develop the needed skills to land a new job at Apogee Inc. as a system administrator, a job I love. In addition, my salary increased by 25 percent.

I want to continue my IT career and keep learning and upskilling myself. Simplilearn’s applied learning approach suits me perfectly because it allows me to keep learning while doing my full-time job.

Simplilearn enhances a decade of IT expertise

I have always worked in IT: I have done everything from IT help desks at restaurants to being a data analyst at hospitals. I have a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems. After more than 10 years of working in various IT positions, I decided to upskill myself and focus on my career. My aim was fulfilled when I landed a job as a system administrator at Apogee Inc.

My long-term goal is to continue pursuing a career in IT while gaining experience in the cloud industry or a related IT field. With the knowledge, I have gained from my past work experience and professional courses such as Simplilearn, I believe I will be able to expand my career to the next level.

As documented by Rajesh Singh

I began my career with FIS, a global fintech firm, in 2006. During the first year, my primary responsibility was coding, testing, and providing platform and delivery solutions. In 2007, I moved on from that role, working 12 years for various tech companies in positions like systems engineer and technical architect before returning to FIS in 2019.

When I started with FIS the second time I worked as a Project Manager. In 2020, the company decided to start a new five-year project based on cloud computing. During that time, I worked as a technical architect for FIS. But as I considered my career ambitions, my interest in cloud technology, and the possibility of promotion within my company, I felt an immediate need to upskill by becoming certified in cloud computing.

Matching Your Career Goals with the Right Program

After carefully assessing my goals, I researched various programs to ensure the right fit. I came across different course providers but very few offered comprehensive cloud architect courses. A colleague recommended Simplilearn to me because of the virtual courses, which best suit me as a working professional. I chose Simplilearn’s Cloud Architect Master’s Program because of its highly-relevant curriculum and the benefits of taking the classes entirely online.

With Simplilearn, I enjoyed the convenience and flexibility of class hours because they didn’t interfere with my work schedule. In addition, the classes were virtual, so I chose to take courses either early in the morning, late in the evening, or even on weekends.

The courses were thorough and included modules like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, along with all the basics of cloud architecture. As a bonus to my decision, my company paid for the course which made it easy on my pockets.

Sometimes it takes just a spark of initiative and some friendly words of guidance to jump onto a new, exciting career path. As a former software developer, I was convinced to leverage my existing work experience, enroll in the Simplilearn’s Cloud Architect Course, and enter the wide world of cloud computing.

Getting Profitable Career Advice

I followed a friend’s suggestion and contacted Simplilearn for advice. After providing some information on Simplilearn’s website, I received a call from its support team. One of the executives asked about my background and suggested Simplilearn’s Cloud Computing courses. I already had a background in projects, products, and development. I worked with AWS (Amazon Web Services), Microsoft Office 365, and Dynamics 365 technologies. On that basis, Simplilearn suggested that since I already knew about cloud computing, I just had to learn the in-depth concepts.

I was told that if I gain in-depth knowledge of the cloud, how applications are built, and how you manage their administration, I could attain a senior position in the industry.

Simplilearn’s Cloud Computing Approach

Students taking Simplilearn’s Cloud Architect Course can learn more than 50 cloud computing skills and tools. These skills include cloud workloads, disaster recovery, database management, autoscaling, performance testing, web services, and API. It also offers more than 30 hands-on projects and integrated labs, and a capstone project in four domains. Simplilearn’s practical course of study helps certified students become job-ready following certification.

Some of the jobs available in the cloud computing field are cloud developer, cloud security engineer, front-end and back-end developer, SysOps administrator, development operations engineer, and solutions architect.

Virtually everyone’s lives were upended as the result of the global COVID-19 crisis, including mine. Diminished economic activity in the wake of social distancing guidelines enacted to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus prompted a wave of layoffs in early 2020. Based in Louisville, Kentucky as a veteran technology professional, I was laid off from my job as a manager in April after eight and a half years, and decided I needed to take control of my post-COVID future by upgrading my skills.

As a 30-year veteran in the world of information technology, I was no stranger to upskilling, which is why I have been able to thrive in the industry for so long. I started my career as a programmer, worked as a developer, eventually moving into hardware support and database support. After the 2020 layoff, I took a pragmatic look at IT trends and realized that cloud computing was a growth industry with incredible career opportunities.

I believe that companies today are looking toward cloud technology to shore up their business value at the end of the day. This is my rationale for choosing cloud computing as my next professional focus. Six months after receiving the pink slip, I am now a gainfully employed systems engineering manager for a health care payments platform company, thanks in no small part to Simplilearn’s Cloud Architect Master’s Program.

My story is proof positive that with the right motivation and training, professionals can recover and indeed thrive after experiencing a temporary setback due to events beyond their control. Learn how I leveraged Simplilearn’s unique online learning platform to reinvent my career.

The Challenge: Getting Back on Track After a Layoff

I describe myself as a positive person, an admirable trait during such trying times. So, soon after I was laid off as part of a broader reduction in force at the health care services company where I handled change and problem management, I directed my attention toward solving my own change in career status. I was already intrigued with the seemingly endless potential of cloud computing and saw that advanced cloud skills were in high demand

I wanted to immerse myself in all aspects of cloud technology and gain hands-on experience with the three major cloud computing platforms: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). I was particularly intrigued with the expanding use of cloud technology for virtual machines, application servers, application services, web services, and so much more.

While I was able to find classes on AWS or Azure, what I really wanted was a program that would provide a comprehensive and rigorous education in cloud computing that involved all three major cloud platforms. I searched online for programs that were comprehensive, effective, affordable, and flexible, and Simplilearn’s offerings consistently showed up at the top of the list. As I refined my search, I decided that Simplilearn had more to offer and its process looked intuitive to me.

My mind made up, I enrolled in Simplilearn’s seven-course Cloud Architect Master’s Program, covering the latest tools and methods across all three major cloud platforms.
