I have over 20 years of experience in data management. I first came across Simplilearn’s courses during the pandemic when I wanted to know more about the tech domain and take advantage of the data science boom.

At that time, I was working with Smith’s Detection as a program and channel partner manager. My job was to recruit and maintain relationships with channel partners and to design commercial strategies. While studying channel partners, I handled a lot of data and wanted to find an effective way to streamline my work. Simplilearn’s Big Data Hadoop & Spark Developer online course helped me accomplish that.

Applying New Skills

I have been able to apply the knowledge I gained from Simplilearn’s Big Data course at my current job. As a partner manager, I help provide my company with the vision to grow outside the commercial space by recruiting partners in Latin America. This recruiting process requires a lot of data analysis, and I have to see how many companies are willing to become partners and review their numbers. Once I finish recruiting, I will be working to grow the partnership, including working on a lot of data. 

After I took Simplilearn’s Big Data course, I was able to solve a problem for my previous company. We were unsure how to evaluate the performance of channel partners on a year-on-year basis. We had sales data, but it was not a complete picture of the channel partners’ performance.

Originally from India, I lived in the United States for 15 years. I have worked in the IT sector for the past 20 years. My job with Dell EMC required extensive travel, which I no longer wanted to do, so I explored other options in the industry. I worked with big corporations such as Reliance in India, and I enjoyed its corporate structure. So, I decided to get back to the corporate work life. 

I joined Fortinet as a principal DevOps infrastructure engineer after shifting my focus to DevOps. DevOps combines software development and IT operations to shorten the systems development life cycle and deliver high-quality software. After working in this capacity for a year, I felt I needed to upskill my talents in DevOps and signed up for Simplilearn’s online bootcamp. 

I chose Simplilearn’s PGP in DevOps course. Simplilearn offers its course online, and I found the curriculum quite interesting. My employers also recognized the value of the course, which was another plus point for me. 

Now I can apply the knowledge I gained from the course to my work. Before the course, it was challenging for me to carry out particular assignments and projects because I came from an infrastructure background. Now, my employer knows that I have taken this course and can handle a broader range of tasks. Based on this certification, I can ask for more projects from my employers. 

My experience with Simplilearn was great. Before joining the course, I knew that I was going for DevOps, but the course gave me a structural understanding of it.

Interestingly, my wife was hesitant about me taking a digital course, and she thought the experience might not be as beneficial as in-person [DN1] classes, but it turned out to be valuable. The instructors were excellent. Also, studying with people from different backgrounds and experience levels was something new.

One of my responsibilities as a Xeon platform applications engineer is to manage labs for Intel in California. Lab management requires a solid knowledge of IT skills and infrastructure operations. We deploy several applications and services in our lab and configure systems. We have a small infrastructure team and encounter numerous issues in our labs due to staff shortages. These include automation challenges, configuring systems, and shipping products to customers. Fortunately, I have the skills to resolve problems that arise, and I have the trust of management.
