I loved working as a software developer. However, I always felt that my corporate position was holding my growth prospects. Additionally, my interests kept encouraging me to learn more about digital marketing. For this, I enrolled for the Digital Marketing Program from Simplilearn, which turned out to be one of my best professional decisions.

My Journey

In 2015 I moved from Sri Lanka to Dubai in search of better job opportunities. Here I got an offer from one of the leading UAE companies named Landmark Group. As I had prior experience in working with programming languages like web2, mobile, etc., I started working as a web developer. Here I also got the chance to understand the basics of digital marketing, which seemed interesting to me. Eventually, I decided to explore this sector through the best professional courses that were available to me.

My Challenges

As a software developer, I was earning good money, but I wanted to change my domain to digital marketing. The primary reason for this was the fact that digital marketing included everything that was relevant to my hobbies, which included photography, videography, and content creation.

For this, I started reading books and took online video tutorials to understand more about this sector. In Dec 2018, I decided to shift to Digital Marketing. As I had no experience in this domain, I needed academic qualifications from the best institutes.

My Career Journey So Far

I got a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems from King Faisal University in 2015. After that, I started working as an SAP HCM Consultant at Al Muhaidib Group. Over the years, I gained professional experience in enhancing an organisation, making processes more efficient, and solving problems effectively. I have professional knowledge and experience in ARB systems, development, implementation, user support, and practice.

At present, I am a Senior Application Specialist at the Saudi Industrial Development Fund – SIDF. I am a corporate department head and develop and implement extensive projects.

The Challenge

My main objectives behind searching for courses in data analysis were growth and excellence, and earning a better position or job. If I upskilled, I would have the chance to assist in newer projects. As I was working full-time, I needed online courses with flexible timings to learn at my own pace.

Twelve years ago, I moved to the US from Sudan. With over 13 years of enterprise experience as an IT business professional, I have learned and excelled in most branches of the IT category. Out of college with a B.Tech, I gained 12+ years of working experience by engaging with big MNCs like TCS, Wipro, and Saint Gobain Group in the cybersecurity domain. My Background

I have two decades of production-related experience. I spent the last 15 years working as a press operator at Pactiv Evergreen. The company manufactures and produces boxes and packaging materials for prominent restaurants and fast-food franchises.

I led the union in the largest plant in Pactiv Evergreen’s Paper Division. I looked after the production machinery’s functions. The plant has over 300 employees during the slow season, rising close to 400 during peak demand times. It’s a 24/7, year-round operation with products covering food packaging items such as paper cups, plastic lids, and food service containers and cartons.

Then Came the Realization

After over a decade of working with great people in a secure position, I eventually realized that my career goals weren’t aligned with the organization’s goals. My position entailed me working with the corporate union, but I wanted something different and something more. I wanted to get into project management.

But to make my dreams of a new career in project management come true, I needed to upskill.

In Search of Knowledge

I believe that the suitable courses, especially in the areas of project management and Lean management, would help boost my resume and help me land a new job. I felt confident because the discipline of project management is everywhere.
