Career Management Masterclass: Building a Career Like Building a Successful Startup

About the Webinar

Today, the definition of a “career” is not all that well defined. It’s what you choose, what you like, what you are good at, and what inspires you. It changes with the environment around you, the experiences you have as you go through the journey.

It turns out that it’s the same with a startup.  Startups are born out of the same principles: what inspires the founders, what trends and changes the founders observe around them, what skills they possess to make the most of their opportunities. This webinar explores this parallel, with lessons from a successful startup journey that can serve as a roadmap for a successful career today.

Join us on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at 9 PM IST (8:30 AM PDT) for a talk by T.N. Hari, Head of HR at BigBasket. Hari will give you insights into the qualities of careers that mirror those of startups. He’ll give you advice on:

  • Choosing a career
  • Planning career growth
  • Being flexible, keeping your eyes open and using the changes around you to your advantage
  • Patience, and more

The live webinar will include a Q&A with Hari.  (If you register and can’t make the live webinar, we will send you a link to the recording after the event.)

About the Speaker

Hari spent the first 14 years of his career at Tata Steel. Of this the first 11 years were spent in engineering on the shop floor, procurement, and corporate planning. The next three years were in HR, helping restructure the company to cope with post-liberalization challenges.

The next 18 odd years were with a string (5 of them) of high-growth start-ups. The first four saw successful exits (Daksh was acquired by IBM, Virtusa went public on NASDAQ, Amba Research was acquired by Moody’s and TaxiForSure was acquired by Ola). In each of these startups Hari played a key role in shaping their growth and exit.

In the last 5 years, Hari has been an advisor and sounding board to numerous young entrepreneurs and startups. He straddles the entire start-up ecosystem. He is a mentor at accelerators like Techstars, Silicon Road and NUMA. He is an advisor to Arkam Ventures (which is an early stage VC fund) and Fundamentum (which is growth stage VC fund set up by Nandan Nilekani and Sanjeev Aggarwal).

He is a prolific author and has authored 4 books so far and two are being published shortly. The last book is titled, “Saying No to Jugaad – The Making of Bigbasket”. The next two, scheduled for an October release, are, “From Pony to Unicorn – Scaling a Startup Sustainably”, and “Sailing in a Storm – Making a Crisis Work for You”.

Hari has studied at IIT & IIM and worked at an executive level with multiple start-ups/scale-ups. LinkedIn had identified him as one of the Top Voices in India for three years in a row (2016, 2017, and 2018).
