I’m an American project manager with more than 15 years of experience working as a transformational project engineer for Koch Industries. After recognizing the prevalence of data science and artificial intelligence in our industry, I decided to upskill myself. I believed that upskilling would help me increase the scope of my work and perform more efficiently. I enrolled in Simplilearn’s Professional Certificate Program in AI and Machine Learning. It is the second time I’ve taken a Simplilearn course, and the experience has been great. 

After completing the course, I am better positioned to seek new roles in artificial intelligence and machine learning within my organization. I also believe the course helped me build valuable connections and networks with other data science experts at my company.

In the future, I plan to secure a leadership position in the fintech or healthcare sector to use my data science skills to the best of my ability. 

My Job Requires an In-Depth Understanding of Data 

The world around us is data-driven, and my job profile demands an in-depth understanding of data and its applications. To increase the scope of my work abilities and make better overall decisions, I decided to upskill myself. 

I am a project manager with 15+ years of experience. My academics revolved around mechanical engineering, and I am currently working as a transformational projects engineer at Koch Industries. My day-to-day responsibilities include project and program management, installing large-scale equipment, and designing and developing capital projects. My job profile includes regular simulations to optimize lead times and ensure product line capacity. Contributing to developing new products and processes is also a crucial part of my job. Before Koch, I worked as a project engineer for Cornerstones Automation Systems.

As a professional with 26 years of experience under my belt, I was searching for a professional classroom course that would help me update my knowledge of AI and Machine Learning. My Professional Journey

With more than two decades of work experience in the consulting and technology services industry, I have worked at several amazing companies, including IBM and PWC. In addition, I have been an integral part of the team that created SaaS applications to foster employee productivity using concepts of ML and Behavioural Science. Thus, I have experienced technology and its enormous potential to impact people. 

I am currently working as a Director in the Supply Chain focused services organization – Bristlecone.

The Main Challenge

Given that I was already working in the Machine Learning space, I wanted to formalize my learning through a rigorous but flexible classroom program. I was looking forward to new job opportunities in the same domain; therefore, I decided to upskill myself, and after some research, I reached out to Simplilearn.

My Professional Journey

I graduated as a mechanical engineer from Nirma University, Ahmedabad. Right after graduation, I completed a course in AI and Machine Learning through Simplilearn and worked as a researcher for two years at Neuberg Supratech Reference Laboratories.

With a keen interest in AI and ML, I started exploring professional courses that would help me change my career domain. I am a tech enthusiast passionate about artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. With more than a decade’s experience in the tech industry, I have worked with several companies throughout my professional journey. Currently, I’m serving as Lam Research’s senior engineering technician LVL 3/R&D/safety ambassador chairman. I wanted to educate myself and contribute to my company’s newer demands, so I decided to upskill by enrolling in Simplilearn’s Artificial Intelligence Engineer Master’s Program. 

Thanks to Simplilearn’s flexible learning model, I completed the course successfully. The Artificial Intelligence Engineer Master’s Program made me more confident, and I have been able to apply all of the learnings to my work. The knowledge I gained from this course prompted me to volunteer for new projects at my company. I enjoyed learning with Simplilearn, and I have also recommended Simplilearn to my friends. My performance has improved, and I received recognition for new AI projects at my company. I also gained a 39 percent salary increase. In addition, I have volunteered at an education camp to help kids build robots. It gives me immense satisfaction to be able to improve my contributions to my job and my community. 

I don’t believe in compromising my aspirations and that one must keep working hard toward achieving their goals. 

Managing Time for Study

I knew it would be a challenge to manage work and learning. The flexible learning method helped me cope with my job simultaneously while studying. I took night shifts, worked out early in the morning, and studied. It was: go to work, go to the gym, and then study. I keep telling my friends and colleagues to take courses of their interest from Simplilearn. Simplilearn has been a game-changer; it has added a lot of perspective to my understanding of AI.

I live in Bangalore, Karnataka. My background is in mechanical engineering. I received my M. Tech from IIT Bombay, and worked with companies like Whirlpool and Bluestar in mid-level managerial roles. I have always been drawn to R&D and analytics, and since 2015, I have been at Ingersoll Rand, handling work related to IoT Sensor Data Analytics, dashboard creation, and identifying false machines.

I was applying machine learning tools for predictive and prescriptive R, but felt my skill set was limited and wanted more training. I was interested in learning Python and more advanced techniques like AI/ML. 

I started to research courses and eventually decided to take the Professional Certificate in AI and Machine Learning Program delivered by Simplilearn. Its curriculum was more comprehensive than others. And the certificate I received upon course completion was an added advantage. 

The learning experience was very enriching. The instructors were very experienced in AI/ML. They helped me understand the material and clear up any questions I had. That made the entire learning experience easier.

AI and ML training helps a middle-aged mom advance in her career with marketable skills and confidence.  

I loved my job at Dell Technologies, but I suddenly found myself out of work due to my limited education and training. I turned that around by upskilling myself with the Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning program, and today I am a machine learning data manager at Abbin. 

I should mention that I’m a 41-year-old mother and grandmother. When I was 18, I joined the U.S. Army and worked in its human resources division. After my two-year service, I dealt with some personal setbacks and struggled to find a decent job. A hiring agency connected me with Dell Technologies, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately, due to my limited education qualifications, I was eventually let go. That was a sign to me that I needed to upskill and I enrolled for the Machine Learning program offered by Simplilearn. The course gave me a toolbox of skills and boosted my portfolio. It definitely prepared me for the work I’m doing now and for roles I hope to have in the future. My goal is to be a machine learning and Python expert, to work as a freelancer, and teach these skills to others. 

Moving Forward and Not Looking Back

Three years ago, I vowed to keep moving forward and never look back, no matter what. Enduring tough times and a difficult marriage made me realize the importance of self-dependence.

I earned a meager income through my photography business, but I was able to build a house for our family. One day, a hiring agency called looking for candidates to work at Dell Technologies. I cracked that job and simply loved it. Everyone there made me push my limits and I thrived on finding solutions to workplace problems. 

However, because I wasn’t certified, I was let go from my job. I was devastated. The job made me feel confident, smart, and self-dependent. From then on, it was my motto to get back to Dell Technologies. 

First, I needed upskilling. I enrolled in Simplilearn’s course and that has been a great decision for me.

Today, I credit Simplilearn with my love of self-learning. Whenever I land up a new job, I’m confident that I’ll give my best. My intellectual abilities are expanding exponentially and I am very happy about that. By learning with Simplilearn, my portfolio of work is improving tremendously and my toolbox is overflowing with solutions.

I always believe in learning, and it has shaped who I am today. In my professional journey, my mantra has always been the same –  “Learning is growing. If you stop learning, you’ll stop growing. Therefore, it has to be an evolving process.” This has helped me reach great heights both personally and professionally.

My Journey

My professional career hasn’t always been linear. I studied Electronics and Telecommunication and graduated from Sardar Patel University in 2007 before deciding to grow in marketing. I then pursued PGDM in Marketing from the SIES College of Management Studies in 2011. For the last 12 years, I have been working in my dream company, Google Cloud. I am currently a Business Manager and am responsible for ensuring people use the right tools and collaboration strategies, allowing them to expand and scale better with Google Technologies.

My company provides a lot of flexibility in work, so I rarely go to the office. I h ave been assigned to manage various regions, so my work involves a lot of traveling and interactions with various companies’ CEOs, CPOS, Co-Founders, and even senior-level stakeholders, including the Board of Directors. 

The Challenge

While my job is fantastic, I know I must follow my learning mantra. At my Google Cloud division, I realized that majority of my interactions with the customers revolved around Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. This was becoming a promising sector for me in terms of sales. So, to serve my customers better and improve my performance in my current role, I decided that taking up an in-depth course in AI and ML would be the perfect way to upskill myself.

Professionally, I want to be known as an individual who understands new-age technologies (like metaverse), both their application and implication to a specific industry. I would like to see myself grow as a person who can contribute to helping a social issue or an industry-specific issue concerning new technologies and innovations. This is why upskilling seemed like the perfect choice for me!

My name is Tarekh Bekgasam, and I’m originally from Libya, now living with my family in Ohio, USA. I currently work as Associate Consultant at KiE Square Analytics. Prior to this role, I’d worked at Honda since 2019, and have also enjoyed a rich experience in the field of teaching. I hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University.

I always had a passion for AI and machine learning (AI/ML) and knew its importance in the materials research field in which I worked.
