  • American Society for Quality [ASQ]

To sit for their Six Sigma certifications, professionals will have to pay the associated cost for each belt. Here’s a breakdown of lean six sigma certification costs.

1. Six Sigma White Belt Certification Cost:

The White Belt is the fundamental level of certification which covers basic concepts of Six Sigma. White Belts can help in projects and problem-solving assignments that are related to quality and alter/change management. 

There are no Six Sigma certification costs for this. An individual can pursue their White Belt certification free of cost through CSSC. The ASQ and IASSC don’t provide a formal credential for a White Belt.

2. Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification Cost:

To earn the Yellow Belt rank, professionals must be familiar with the fundamental concepts of Six Sigma. They know where and how to implement those concepts. Yellow Belt is recommended for entry-level employees by ASQ who have a keen interest in the domain of data collection and analysis or managing the efficiency of the process.

The Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification cost through ASQ is $394 for non-members and $294 for members. Applicants can retake the exam through the ASQ for $184. Taking the Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification through the IASSC will cost $195 and $99 through the CSSC.

3. Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Cost:

Once an applicant reaches the Six Sigma Green Belt Certification, they can formulate rational solutions that can enhance the total quality management. Green Belt professionals can assist black belt holders with data compilation and analysis. They can easily identify the area of concern where the problems lie, and then accordingly, they can form the approach which will provide solutions within the firm. If professionals pursue these credentials, they can use this as a competitive advantage as they can learn the essentials of the process improvement methodology.

Before getting Green Belt certified, ASQ requires professionals to have three years of industry experience in one or more areas of Six Sigma Green Belt.

The Six Sigma Green Belt certification cost by ASQ is $438 for non-members and $338 for members, with a retake fee of $238. The certification cost through the IASSC is $295. 

Unlike the ASQ or the IASSC, the CSSC offers certification in two ways. Firstly, the fundamental Six Sigma Green Belt credential. Secondly, level 2 Green Belt Credential for the specialists who want to improve their skill sets further at this rank. 

Cost of Six Sigma Green Belt Certification via CSSC is $159. The Level 2 Six Sigma Green Belt Certification is a supplementary credential that can be attained when a specialist presents a final concluded assignment or task for a review or complete evaluation. The price for the advanced certification is $300.

4. Six Sigma Black Belt Certification Cost:

Black belts are specialists and advocates of innovation. They can lead various project teams and manage individuals of Yellow and Green Belt holders who are contributing to the project. They will be responsible for managing the entire lifecycle of the process with high accountability. Once professionals or an individual attain this level, they can act as a principal consultant to the project team members and can become a crucial shareholder of the organization. 

The ASQ requires professionals to have one of the following requirements to be Black Belt holders:

  • Professionals must have completed two projects with an attached signed affirmation. OR
  • Completed one project with three years of industry experience with an attached signed affirmation.

As per ASQ’s website, the Six Sigma Black Belt Certification cost is $438 for its members and $538 for non–members. The retake fee is $338. ASQ has the most rigid credential requirements compared to other associations in attaining the Six Sigma Black Belt certification. 

The CSSC, on the other hand, doesn’t have any prior requirement for obtaining the Six Sigma certification. Rather, the CSSC offers three different levels of Black Belt certification. The basic level costs $229, while Black Belt Level 2 and Black Belt Level 3 cost an additional $300 each. 

The IASSC offers the Six Sigma Black Belt certification for $395, with no prerequisites required to take the exam.

Once a professional has earned their Black Belt, they’re eligible to sit for their Master Black Belt credential. ASQ and CSSC both have unique prerequisites for applicants to complete before they can take the Master Black Belt Certification. The IASSC doesn’t offer the Master Black Belt Certification.

Members looking to attain their Master Black Belt Certification through ASQ will pay $545 for the portfolio review and $2,124 for the exam. Non-members will pay $650 for the portfolio review and $2,229 for the exam. Retakes with ASQ will cost an additional $2,074. 

Professionals looking to take their Six Sigma Master Black Belt Certification through CSSC will pay $665 for the exam.
