My name is Tarekh Bekgasam, and I’m originally from Libya, now living with my family in Ohio, USA. I currently work as Associate Consultant at KiE Square Analytics. I always had a passion for AI and machine learning (AI/ML) and knew its importance in the materials research field in which I worked. There’s a lot of talk about blockchain technology today, especially in association with Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. However, blockchain enthusiasts have long held to the idea that the technology has uses that go beyond cryptocurrency.

That’s all very nice, but I wanted to understand blockchain better. Was it really as great as the pundits said it was? Fortunately, I happened upon Simplilearn’s Professional Certificate Program in Blockchain by IIT Kanpur, and it cleared up a lot of blockchain’s mysteries for me.

My Background

I am a self-taught front-end developer and undergrad Physics student at Ramjas College, University of Delhi. In fact, I best describe myself as a “physics maniac!” I am proficient in HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, and also know a good deal about Bootstrap and React. So yes, I’m still in school, so don’t expect this story to end with the typical “…and I got a better job!” At least, not exactly. Read on, and you’ll see what I mean.

My Challenge: Getting a Good Grasp on What Blockchain Is and How Useful it Really Is

Despite my expertise in tools such as JavaScript and HTML5, I had a knowledge gap where blockchain was concerned. So, it was clear that I needed to be brought up to speed on blockchain, and also figure out how applicable it really was in today’s IT and business world.

But there are a lot of voices out there in the digital world, ranging from those who insist blockchain is the answer to all our digital problems going forward, and the naysayers who insist that blockchain is just a fad and not nearly as good or secure as its proponents make it out to be. I needed a source of information that was objective and gave me the full story on blockchain and its practical applications. That’s where Simplilearn entered the picture.

I became associated with Simplilearn in 2014, when I enrolled in my first set of courses. I have a passion for learning new things and collecting certifications. Over the years, I have taken courses in PMP®, PRINCE2®, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, and DevOps. In 2021, Simplilearn’s DevOps course helped me land my new job as a solution architect and ServiceNow consultant at birkle IT in Munich, Germany. With it came a 100 percent salary hike. I give full credit to Simplilearn. The most recent course I completed was Simplilearn’s Professional Blockchain Certification Program from IIT Kanpur.

I took the course in Blockchain because the technology resolves an old problem of slow and insecure online payments. Using Blockchain also eliminates overburdens on the process in an exquisite way. I recently put my new Blockchain certification from Simplilearn on my Linkedin profile, and it is gaining a lot of attention. Simplilearn’s courses are comprehensive, to the point, and accessible. Over the years, I have taken 11 courses from Simplilearn, completing four or five so far, and I am finishing the remaining courses.

Upskilling for the sake of knowledge

Upskilling is my passion. I like to learn new things and collect certifications. My motive behind upskilling was not to get a new job, but to learn new skills. People ask me why I keep taking so many courses, and I simply reply that I do it for personal growth. When you upskill, you open yourself to new experiences. You talk to other people from different backgrounds, and it teaches you a lot. I started my career as a business analyst, then moved to service management and IT. My experience has taught me that it is essential to keep learning new things to keep growing. 

During the pandemic, we were all working from home, and I wanted to make good use of my time. So, last year, I worked on getting a certification in DevOps from Simplilearn, which I received in November 2021. I am interested in learning new technologies, so I enrolled in Simplilearn’s Professional Blockchain Certification Program from IIT Kanpur.

I am a project analyst in the Jamaican government’s housing assistance department. Providing housing assistance involves numerous steps between land procurement and delivering home ownership to beneficiaries. My job was to evaluate a better way to manage the process.

I decided to take Simplilearn’s Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Course because it teaches how to organize processes. I hold a Master of Arts in communication for social and behavior change from the University of the West Indies, and I knew I would benefit from Simplilearn’s online course. 

After taking the course, I could better segment the processes and address problem areas. When the pandemic hit, our department moved the documentation process online. However, we could not keep track of all the documents, which ultimately caused delays. So, I applied the Lean Six Sigma methodology to solve the problem. The course helped me manage time easily and deliver output promptly. 

My overall experience with the course was excellent. I am not very confident using statistics, and Simplilearn’s Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Course helped me understand them.
