With my background in programming, I believed I knew a little about everything. But I aimed to know about everything in the programming world. That led me to Simplilearn’s Full Stack Java Developer online course. I thought it would help me change my career, so I took the course last year.

After completing the course, I gained in-depth knowledge, which helped me take a leap and change my domain. Desjardins recognized my new certification, and I joined the programming team as a Java software developer.

An inquisitive upbringing

I have been to many countries since childhood because my father wanted me to see the world for myself. I also was educated abroad and received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Maine. 

I started programming websites on a freelance basis as a college student. Also, I started teaching programming to my interested friends. I realized the importance of upskilling early and started teaching myself programming, and I learned Java, PHP, and other languages independently.

My work has also taken me to many places. I settled in Quebec, Canada, in 2019 with my family, mainly because of the calm surroundings and the peace of mind the country offers.

There’s a lot of talk about blockchain technology today, especially in association with Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. However, blockchain enthusiasts have long held to the idea that the technology has uses that go beyond cryptocurrency.

That’s all very nice, but I wanted to understand blockchain better. Was it really as great as the pundits said it was? Fortunately, I happened upon Simplilearn’s Professional Certificate Program in Blockchain by IIT Kanpur, and it cleared up a lot of blockchain’s mysteries for me.

My Background

I am a self-taught front-end developer and undergrad Physics student at Ramjas College, University of Delhi. In fact, I best describe myself as a “physics maniac!” I am proficient in HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, and also know a good deal about Bootstrap and React. So yes, I’m still in school, so don’t expect this story to end with the typical “…and I got a better job!” At least, not exactly. Read on, and you’ll see what I mean.

My Challenge: Getting a Good Grasp on What Blockchain Is and How Useful it Really Is

Despite my expertise in tools such as JavaScript and HTML5, I had a knowledge gap where blockchain was concerned. So, it was clear that I needed to be brought up to speed on blockchain, and also figure out how applicable it really was in today’s IT and business world.

But there are a lot of voices out there in the digital world, ranging from those who insist blockchain is the answer to all our digital problems going forward, and the naysayers who insist that blockchain is just a fad and not nearly as good or secure as its proponents make it out to be. I needed a source of information that was objective and gave me the full story on blockchain and its practical applications. That’s where Simplilearn entered the picture.

I have always been inspired to be a software developer ever since my undergraduate days. Being from a mechanical engineering background, I was never able to get the right opportunity to explore the software development domain. But Simplilearn gave me the right platform and explore new avenues.

My Journey

I am from Hyderabad and I graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the CMR Institute of Technology in 2020. Due to the pandemic, my job prospects looked weak and I eventually joined Amazon Development Center as a Technical Support Associate in 2021. My Journey

I hail from Gurgaon and stay there with my family. I started my professional career with TCS six years ago. I got that job during campus placement, and it was a QA (quality assurance) role manual testing profile. But I was always interested in software development, mainly Java, my favorite language. 

The Challenge

Whenever I used to reach out to my managers to change my role, they would ask for some proof or certifications. The lack of any formal development knowledge or certifications, I was unable to move towards the software development domain. I was constantly looking for ways to upskill myself and this is the time when I came across Simplilearn. One of my friends was taking the Data Engineering course from Simplilearn, and his feedback was very good, so I checked out the course on the Simplilearn website, and I liked the roadmap and structure of the course.

I browsed through the different Java courses offered by Simplilearn and finalized on the Java Certification Training Course. It was a six-month-long course, and it set the ground for me. I came to understand what to explore at that time. Before taking the course, I was in an imaginary universe and thought we needed to learn everything, but that’s not the case in software development. We just need to learn what is required at that point. Now I have cleared the OCGP certification after taking this course. Everything was perfect in the course, there was 24×7 technical support and flexible schedules, and whenever we had any doubts, it was cleared within a day. My name is Swapnil Pal, and I am a systems engineer, and hold a Bachelor of Technology (B-tech) degree in electronics and telecommunications engineering. Prior to this position, I worked with India-based company, VOIS, as a senior quality assurance executive. The position was the result of a campus placement.

I decided to upskill because I wanted to change my career path from software tester to software developer. Since I was also curious about web development, I started learning on my own. Still, I knew that it wasn’t enough, so I began searching for online courses. I eventually discovered Simplilearn’s Post Graduate Program (PGP) in Full Stack Web Development, provided by Simplilearn. So, in 2021, I decided to upskill myself.

I began my career as a mechanical engineer. A native of Mumbai, I graduated from GV Acharya College in 2018 with a degree in mechanical engineering. From there, I immediately found a position in a mechanical company in the design and production line. The company was in a small industry with few growth opportunities, and my role required that I work on-site and interact with work crews on the site. It didn’t take long for me to realize that the position was not a good fit for me. After three months, I decided to leave that job and started teaching as a physics professor.

During my time teaching physics, I rediscovered my big craze for web development, data science, AI, and machine learning, which I had since my college days. But being a mechanical engineer, it was really difficult for me to get a competitive job in the market. To help break into the field, I took a data science course at an Institute in Mumbai. But the day I completed it, the entire country was in lockdown due to Covid.

Being a fresher in the tech field along with having a mechanical background made it really difficult for me to switch careers in the competitive job market. I decided to take on freelance projects, but that didn’t work for me because I knew this was not the right time and path for actually learning the technology. After all, there is a lot to know about programming, front end, and back end.

My Journey

I hail from Kolkata and live with my family. I completed my MCA from the Future Institute of Engineering and Management Kolkata in 2012. I started my career in the year 2013 in a mid-level organization as Software Tester as I couldn’t get the opportunity in campus recruitment. Starting from that, I switched several organizations until I got the first big breakthrough with Cognizant in 2019 as a Product Test Specialist.

After that, I joined my dream company Accenture as a Test Lead last year and am still a part of it. My main expertise is in Functional and Automation Testing using Selenium-Java. I have good exposure to designing Test Cases, Test Plans and executing them. I am well-versed with Project and Test Management Tools like Jira, HP-ALM, TFS, Rally, and Confluence. I have extended work experience and knowledge of the Agile/Scrum model. I also analyze business requirements and prepare test estimates and reports. I am ISTQB Certified and also got Certified from Simplilearn In Selenium.

I’m from the small town of Mahbubnagar in Telangana. I received my BSc in Statistics from Nizam College in Basheerbagh. After graduating, I felt lost in my career path. I wanted to get into the IT/software industry, but knew nothing about coding. I didn’t even know what an html tag was.
