What is MATLAB?

It is computer software available as a paid version. Matlab provides a platform for virtually designing and analyzing systems and products. It is a programming platform allowing numerical calculations through the user-friendly interface to assist in data analysis, algorithm development and creation of applications and models.

The software offered by Mathworks comes packed with an in-built specialized toolbox and functions assisting in optimization, image processing, control systems, signal processing and other functionalities. The visualization features are also brilliant, with high definition and various functions. It allows the creation of 2D and 3D plots and visualization customization as per the needs. It is also compatible with multiple programming languages leading to widespread and effortless applicability.

What is Matlab Simulink?

The Matlab Simulink is an extension of Matlab with enhanced graphical and visualization capabilities. It provides functionality such as simulation, analysis of dynamic systems, and modeling through a user-friendly interface. The block diagram representation is an intriguing feature imparting simplicity to the complex procedures, each representing a mathematical operation or system component.

Offering multiple predefined blocks and libraries, the Matlab Simulink offers a platform for real-time simulation, sensitivity analysis, model optimization, parameter sweeps and other functions. The primary usage is in research and development in science and engineering domains, including life sciences, bioinformatics, mechanical and civil engineering. The industrial uses are seen in digital signal processing, electrical circuits, power systems, facilitating rapid prototyping, power and communication systems and other areas.

Discover How to Set up Matlab On Your Laptop

The Matlab setup is divided into two steps, download and installation.

The download process is as follows:

  • Step 1: Go to the official website of Mathworks and log in or register to your account (https://in.mathworks.com/products/matlab.html?s_tid=hp_products_matlab).
  • Step 2: Find the license from the stated options.
  • Step 3: click the blue arrow and button for downloading the Matlab.
  • Step 4: Select the platform and choose the ‘save’ option
  • Step 5: Go to the file browser, check the download location, and look for the below-stated names according to the operating system.
  1. Windows 64 bit: matlab_R20XXx_win64.exe
  2. Windows 32 bit: matlab_R20XXx_win32.exe
  3. Mac: matlab_R20XXx_maci64.zip
  4. Linux: matlab_R20XXx_glnxa64.zip

Read on to check out the installation process:

  • Step 1: Extract the setup, and click on it to get the setup application.
  • Step 2: The setup will display terms and conditions, go through the same and click ‘Yes’ and press the ‘Next’ button.
