I’ve always been an eager learner. As the current deputy vice president of risk and governance for Axis Bank in Mumbai, I’ve successfully climbed the career ladder by upskilling whenever I see a need.

With nearly 19 years of varied experience in IT, I’ve never turned away from a challenge. After many years in corporate, I realized that I needed an MBA to achieve my career goals. I earned a postgraduate diploma in management, finance, and corporate strategy from the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode.

Turning To Simplilearn to Learn Data Science

Next, I found the need to sharpen my understanding of data science. My current role demands a lot of understanding of data. I wanted to be self-dependent in terms of understanding and interpreting data and machine learning. I have also been interested in data science. So I decided to enroll in Simplilearn’s Professional certificate in Data Science with Generative AI.

I am from Kolhapur, Maharashtra, and am currently based out of Bangalore. I work with Duxes Labs as a Data Analyst. Coming from a Mechanical Engineering background, it was difficult to get a job in the IT field, so I initially took an operations job with Flipkart, where I worked for a year. Later, I became a Senior Operations Executive at Swiggy and worked there for almost two years. I wasn’t satisfied with my career growth or salary, though, so I decided to switch fields. I wanted to work in Data Science.

I searched online, found Simplilearn, and enrolled in their Data Analyst Master’s program. I felt Simplilearn’s curriculum was best suited for my needs. I liked that it was co-developed with IBM. The pricing of the course was less than the competitors, and the course covered more content. As a working professional, I was able to take evening classes and study on weekends and weekdays after work hours. The course also had good ratings. All of this helped me make the decision to enroll.

The instructors were great and made the course very interesting. The classes were interactive, which made the learning process smooth. I received constant guidance for projects. In addition to teaching technical content, the course helped me in my personal growth by helping me develop my communications skills. If I had questions or doubts, they were always cleared up in class.

After finishing the course, I left Swiggy and actively looked for a job in Data Science. After two months and several interviews, I finally got hired by Duxes Labs as a Data Analyst, with a salary hike of 65 percent. I feel that Simplilearn’s certification played a key role in my getting the job. I am thankful to Simplilearn for helping me accelerate my career transition and training me on essential Data Science skills.

I live in Pune, Maharashtra, with my family. After 11 years+ of working as an Assistant Professor in an Engineering college, I felt my career was stagnating. I wanted to move from teaching to the corporate field. Friends and colleagues cautioned me to not be too ambitious, but I was interested in Data Science. I knew I had to upskill and started looking for Data Science courses online.

After finishing the program, I searched for better job opportunities and was hired by Capgemini as a Senior Analyst. I credit Simplilearn’s certification and the skills I acquired for helping me ace the interview, stand apart from other candidates, and get the job. The job also came with a 71 percent salary increase.

Sometimes life throws unexpected obstacles in your way. One moment, things are going great, and you see your future laid out in front of you, the next, things come to a grinding halt, and you never saw it coming. But although those obstacles can hinder your progress and plans for life, we can rise above the setbacks and get our future back on track.

Although enthusiasm, drive, and excitement can help you overcome life’s unexpected complications, sometimes you need a little extra help. In my case, that help came from Simplilearn and its Data Science Master’s Program.

But first, a little background.

My Background

I hail from Nagpur, Maharashtra. I completed my Bachelors in Engineering from KDK College of Engineering in 2017 and got placed in M Junction Services Ltd. as an Associate. While there, I completed several projects and worked for a client, Steel Authority of India, Chandrapur. While working at M Junction, I got an opportunity to learn various languages. Everything seemed to be falling into place.

However, in early 2020, things went off the road when I went in for surgery. Although the surgery was successful, the doctor advised me not to work, so I had to leave my job.

But even my necessary departure from the workforce couldn’t diminish my enthusiasm, desire for knowledge, dedication, and ability to learn things quickly. I still wanted to learn new things, be it technological innovations or new languages. And I still had my hobbies and interests, things like cooking and dancing.

The Challenge: Upskilling After a Health-Related Absence from the IT Industry

Although my career plans had stalled, technology and innovation march on. The last thing I wanted to do was to fall behind. And the problem is, in the fast-paced, ever-growing IT world, one or two years is like an eternity.

I decided I needed to take some online courses and get myself upskilled and stay current. However, there was a dizzying number of online educational choices. Fortunately, I had friends who had taken the Data Science course from Simplilearn and were pleased with the results. There’s nothing like positive word of mouth to convince you!

Also, I noticed the reviews for Simplilearn were positive and persuasive and played a role in convincing me that this was the right choice. So, I decided to sign up. Since my health issues prevented me from working full-time, I was easily able to dedicate the needed time to study.
