After joining ABAKUS IT-SOLUTIONS last year, I realized that much of my work revolves around the ITIL framework. After working there for a few months, I lacked specific, valuable skills. Therefore, I chose to upskill myself with Simplilearn’s ITIL® 4 Foundation Certification Training and ITIL® 4 Specialist: Create, Deliver and Support courses.

Both of Simplilearn’s courses were comprehensive, and the curriculum was vast. Also, I realized that Simplilearn’s courses were available at an attractive price, making it easy on my pocketbook. The courses were flexible, and I work in shifts, which made it easy to carve out time and focus on my studies. 

Simplilearn’s courses helped me understand the technical aspects of ITIL, and they have helped me perform better at my work. Also, after completing my training, I received a promotion at my company.

The value of upskilling

I joined ABAKUS IT-SOLUTIONS in March 2021. At my job, I am regularly exposed to the ITIL framework, and my job requires me to design, deploy, and maintain ITIL processes. After working there for a few months, I knew I could benefit from learning new skills. My company also supported me in taking the courses, so I enrolled in Simplilearn’s ITIL courses.

I’m a higher education business professional working as a cyber security admin manager at The Georgia Institute of Technology. I have many years of telecommunications, cyber security, banking, and finance experience. I have a master’s degree in business administration and am proficient in ITIL, service management, workflow prioritization, Salesforce, and problem-solving. 

My long-term career goal is to become a cyber security senior director, and my first step toward achieving it was enrolling in Simplilearn’s ITIL® 4 Foundation Certification Training. My shorter-term goals were to find a new job or higher pay, a promotion, and to become certified. 

After completing the course, not only was I offered a promotion with a 12 percent salary increase, but I also was offered a new job. I chose to stay in my current position and dove into new projects.

I’ve worked in technology since the start of my career. From the very beginning, I have sought out ways to learn and be more valuable to my employers. In pursuit of this goal, I’ve earned certifications in computer hardware maintenance and operation while working with several companies on deskside support and networking. I have completed  CCNA, MCSE, RHCSA, RHCE, and Lean Sigma certifications. Most recently, I completed the ITIL Lifecycle Expert program with Simplilearn.

Previously, I worked as a technical support engineer, managing a team of 16 people. My responsibilities included providing day-to-day support for software, troubleshooting problems pertaining to system performance, network administration, and developing and implementing new repair techniques. I decided to pursue the ITIL Expert program because working in IT services means I need to always stay current, as well as learn new skills to get ahead.

I first heard about Simplilearn from a friend. When I looked into it, I learned Simplilearn is one of the world’s largest training providers, offering excellent customer service and a high-quality course curriculum that covered all aspects of the training I wanted. Their online self-learning path worked well for me. I completed the course in six months, studying for three hours during the weekends and 30 minutes to an hour during the weekdays.

Simplilearn is a place where you can take up your training at your own pace and away from the hustle and bustle of your day job. You can simply access the course curriculum and continue with your learning when you have spare time.

The course was well-structured and easy to understand. As a non-native English speaker, I appreciated the neutral accent of the instructor, because it made it easier for me to comprehend the material. The instructor was great and always delivered training in the easiest possible way with plenty of examples and diagrams, plus pointers which eventually contributed to my success. I was able to apply the concepts I learned in my day-to-day work and internal job interviews.

I also liked that the training videos could be downloaded for future viewing. This meant I could always revisit a topic when I thought I needed a better understanding of certain concepts. I also appreciated the customer support. Simplilearn customer service is very agile and quick to respond to any of your queries. They set an example for others.

Service operations has helped me improve my analysis skills and taught me about the importance of having a right balance between a proactive and a reactive approach to a situation. In addition, the course gave me an understanding of KPI metrics. I also learned project management techniques that have helped me as a manager leading a team. I already had an overview of the ITIL framework prior to the program, but the training helped me gain in-depth knowledge. I learned how to do a deep dive analysis and play around with the data. There are so many things available in ITIL and sometimes, without proper training, we would never be able to use all the tools and resources available.

A lot of people dream about being able to start their own business, I am also one of these people. My career goal was set from day one, I always wanted to start my own IT consultancy firm in my homeland. My entire journey was to fulfill this ultimate goal.

I have always been the man with a plan. With over 23 years in the IT industry, I knew that staying abreast of the industry’s developments is key to advancing my career toward my goal.

Finding New Opportunities

I moved to Saudi Arabia from Pakistan in 2003, searching for better job opportunities. I started my career as a consultant and moved to project management and IT service management. Currently, I am working at a public company that provides infrastructure and software as a service to other ministries.

Every ministry has its own setup and IT department. The Saudi Government is planning to centralize the IT services across the ministries. I am currently working for the central entity as a part of ITSM. They are currently using ITIL v2, and my job here is to upgrade the systems to ITIL v3 and later to v4.

Gaining Marketable Skills With Simplilearn

My skills are highly valued because there are very few ITIL 4 professionals in the market where I’m from. However, this also means that I must constantly keep my skills updated to include new and improved technologies. That’s why I have been taking online courses to keep upskilling.

Simplilearn has been a big part of that journey because it has been my go-to for upskilling. I started with one course and fell in love with it. To date, I have completed 16 professional certifications through Simplilearn online bootcamps and recently completed ITIL 4 Managing Professional Transition Module Training and MSP® Foundation & Practitioner Certification Training. After receiving my ITIL 4 certificate, I even got a new job at a public company in January 2021, along with a 15% salary hike.

Simplilearn allowed me to have choices in where I wanted to work. Not only am I ITIL v4 certified, but have also cleared the MSP Foundation exam and am currently preparing for the MSP Practitioner certification.

I am maintaining a pace of earning one certificate per year. I realized very early that in the IT field, I need to upskill. Otherwise, I will be left behind. In the next five years, I want to move back to my hometown in Pakistan and start my own IT consultancy firm. I am sure these certificates will help me in achieving my goals.

I work with an Australia-based telecommunications company called Telstra Global. I earned my master’s degree in mobile communications from Leeds Beckett University, and have worked in this field for the past 13 years, performing different roles with Indian and international organizations. I’d like to share my journey from being a pre-sales executive to becoming a senior solutions consultant at my company.

As a pre-sales consultant, I was expected to understand the unique business challenges of my clients and offer solutions that helped them achieve their business goals. I wanted to grow in my career and was in search of a course that would provide in-depth knowledge of IT service management to help me accomplish the following:

  • Enhance my performance at work by gaining a deeper understanding of client requirements
  • Have more clarity on the terms and concepts of my employer’s product offerings
  • Have more confidence when responding to client queries about the products
  • Build niche skills that would set me ahead of competitors
  • Prepare for senior roles in the company

I compared different learning partners, but wasn’t satisfied with the course content that was offered by many of them. Judging from the demos, the courses lacked depth and did not seem like they would help me achieve my goals. Then I came across Simplilearn’s ITIL Foundation Certification Training. I reviewed the learning path and found that Simplilearn’s course provided the skills that would help me take my career to the next level.

Simplilearn’s online classes offered flexible scheduling that gave me the freedom to learn whenever I wanted to. Other learning partners did not offer the same flexibility. Considering the nature of my work, I couldn’t enroll for a course with fixed class schedules. But Simplilearn suited my learning style and pace perfectly. The course content was in-depth and easy to understand, and you didn’t need to be tech-savvy to enroll.

Working in the IT service management domain for ten years, I knew I had unfulfilled potential. With no direct reports under me, I worked closely with my company’s pre-sales team to convert bids into projects, understand the client requirements, and prepare pre-sales presentations. Although I set a goal, I could not drive projects from start to finish because I lacked the technical and management skills required to lead teams. 

As a commerce graduate from Mumbai, India, I invested almost five years into Atos, a European IT services company specializing in hi-tech transactional services, unified communications, cloud, big data, and cybersecurity services. 

I knew that if he wanted to change my career path, I would need to invest in myself. Achieving Distant Goals

Simplilearn’s ITIL training program proved to be a turning point in my life. I spent over an hour each day during the week and nearly three hours on weekends taking the training.

The case studies included in the course allowed me to visualize these concepts before putting them into practice successfully.
