  • What happens if a PMP® certification holder does not renew their certification within three years?

A PMP® certification holder must renew their certification within three years of becoming certified. If they fail to renew it within this period, their certification will expire. The PMP® certification is not intended for beginners. Applicants must prove they have at least three to five years of experience leading projects to qualify for the exam. It allows you to become proficient in the fundamental terminology and concepts before gaining the professional experience needed for the PMP®.

If they later choose to rejoin, the applicable activation fee may apply.

PMI membership can be renewed as early as 90 days before the expiration date, and renewal is based on the most recent join date. To renew, Learners should log in to PMI.org and access the myPMI dashboard, where they can renew both PMI and chapter memberships.
