A gap in your resume is never a good sign, at least that’s what we’ve always been told. However, this time a gap in my resume actually helped me start my journey towards my dream career. Here’s where it all started.

The Journey:

After finishing college in 2017 as a Mechanical Engineer, I worked as an intern at a Machine manufacturing company, after which I got a job offer as a Jr. Design Engineer at a service-based company in Vadodara, Gujarat. After working there for 1.5 years, I shifted into the sales field, where I worked as a Sales Engineer for 1.5 years. However, sadly, due to a back injury, I had to quit and focus on my health.

After I decided to get back in the field, I got a job offer as a Business Development Executive. My joining date was supposed to be April 1st, 2020; however, due to the pandemic, it got pushed to mid-August. Even then, I worked in a remote capacity, which was quite tricky. I also could not attend my treatment and physical therapy sessions, which were put on hold due to the pandemic. 

The Simplilearn Course

While I was still recovering from my injury and I was stuck at home due to the pandemic, I decided to better myself. I had already shifted my professions three times, and this time I wanted to commit to something and work on developing my career. My dream had always been to become a sports analyst, specifically a football analyst. So, a career in Data Analytics seemed natural. 

I already had coding skills due to my engineering background and business skills due to a business development job. However, I needed to learn the basics of data analytics. My friend suggested that I do a course from Simplilearn. I went through the website and course brochures, and they looked promising. So I started the Professional Certificate in Data Analytics and Generative AI delivered by Simplilearn. 

I loved the fact you can choose your own pace of learning. Since I already knew how to code, I completed all the material in only 4 months, whereas in a traditional course, I would have had to follow their curriculum for at least a year. I even got the opportunity to start doing freelance jobs in the data analytics field.

Upskilling is a fairly new term that a lot of people are just learning. I, myself had no idea what upskilling meant until a friend of mine led me to it. He explained that in order to get an edge in the market, honing your skills is a must. Even if you want to switch careers, having prior knowledge can help you get ahead. This is exactly what happened ot me. 

The Journey

I have a dual degree of Bachelor of Science from Pune University and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University. I started working as an research analyst at Vayuna Voicetech Pvt. Ltd, a Nasik-based company, while completing my Post Graduation at Pune University in English Language Literature and Linguistics. 

After about 3 and a half years, I decided it was time to make my future away from Nashik, so I started applying to various MNCs, such as Accenture, Wipro and Infosys, and TCS. However, sadly I was rejected by them all. That’s when I learned about upskilling from my friend, who told me that it would give me a better chance at getting my dream job. All About My Professional Background

I’m an Army veteran from Wisconsin, U.S.A. While serving back in 1982, I became interested in Satellite Communications as a Senior Instructor/Curriculum Writer. I moved into the private sector in 1994 and worked as a Communications and Systems manager for a while. In my 40-year career span, I have served many companies as a consultant and a Director of Technology.

Due to so many years of experience and newly learned skills, I could change my domain to Solutions Architect within my company in 2020. Then, in January 2022, I joined a new company as a Technical Solutions Architect. My role here focuses on analysis and solution architecture, assisting development and providing configuration while extending D365 Customer Engagement capabilities throughout the Accounting, Architecture/Engineering/Construction, Legal and Consulting industries. Our teams design and deliver a range of solutions to client problems, process gaps, and inefficiencies by providing the skills and knowledge to create solutions that fit in their business strategies.

My Desire to Stay Current Kicks In

I worked as the Enterprise and Application Architecture Director with a company when the global pandemic hit. Although I am on the verge of retirement, I didn’t want to retire. I wanted to retain a youthful perspective regarding skills and mindset at my job. Today’s young people are technically more literate than me. My desire to maintain relevancy in both my position and in the marketplace became my chief incentive to upskill.

How I Chose Simplilearn as My Go-To Upskill Resource

I began my journey by taking some free Simplilearn courses through Skilllup, focusing on business analysis and project management. I really liked the courses and the structure they provided, so I enrolled in Simplilearn and started taking other courses. So, I began with PMI-ACP and PMI-RMP certifications and then moved on to ITIL 4 and TOGAF 9.2 certifications. I took all four of them in 2020. I took the courses to streamline my work. I was looking for courses that would give me practical knowledge and clarify all theoretical aspects. Finally, I wanted to understand how I could use these technologies as a technical architect and help develop business solutions.

I added to my skill set this year by taking certificate courses in Business Analysis and Digital Transformation.

I live in London, in the United Kingdom. I hold a Master’s degree in Digital Communication and Media from London Metropolitan University. Until 2016, I worked as a freelance massage therapist for about six years. But after a few years on the job, I realized that working in the hospitality industry wasn’t my dream career, and my prospects were limited. So, I needed to change direction.

I am a tech enthusiast passionate about artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. With more than a decade’s experience in the tech industry, I have worked with several companies throughout my professional journey. Currently, I’m serving as Lam Research’s senior engineering technician LVL 3/R&D/safety ambassador chairman.
