Losing my job in 2020 allowed me to consider and redirect my career. Sure, the pandemic was a factor, but there were personal reasons for leaving as well. While working as a research and development chemical engineer with Sugaright, I realized I lacked certain skills that would be useful in my field, namely Lean Six Sigma, which is used extensively in production, research, and innovation.

I am skilled as a multilingual chemist with professional experience with palm oil biofuels and liquid sugar. I have a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and chemistry from the University of Minnesota. After departing Sugaright in August 2020, I enrolled in Simplilearn’s Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Course. The course teaches project leadership techniques and how to interpret data using risk management, process mapping, and benchmark setting. 

My experience was amazing. After receiving my certification from Simplilearn in Lean Management, I was awarded a new job with a major cosmetics company in January 2021, with a 20 percent salary increase. I have also been able to solve problems at work with the help of the skills I acquired during my course. Specifically, because so many products are coming in, we had issues with space management. I learned the 5s methodology during the course, based on a Japanese method of organizing, cleaning, developing, and sustaining a productive work environment. I applied 5s to our product space problem and managed the whole process. 

Seeking larger opportunities

I realized I needed to upskill while working as a processing engineer at Sugaright. I wanted to learn Lean Six Sigma , which is very useful and has become necessary to prosper in my field. It is something that we chemical engineers use for quality control and management. I wanted a Lean Six Sigma certification on my resume since I was also looking for a better position in a larger city. My previous job was in Philadelphia, but New York is a hub of opportunities, and I wanted to shift my focus there. Once I left my job at Sugaright, I had time to upskill.

I am an American healthcare enthusiast who has worked in the healthcare industry for more than five years. I decided to change my career path from a health expert/consultant to a project manager and, when I was given some work opportunities in project management, I found I wasn’t prepared for the role due to a lack of skills. I changed that by enrolling in the UMass Amherst Post Graduate Program in Lean Six Sigma with Simplilearn. After completing the course, I had a lot of the knowledge and skills required to be an effective project manager. Along with new responsibilities, I also gained a two percent salary hike. 

Simplilearn provided an enriching learning environment. I benefitted from Simplilearn’s comprehensive program, from their instructors and practice tests to their case studies and flexible learning schedule. With my new knowledge and skills, I plan to continue working in the healthcare industry, advancing my skillset, and experimenting with new job roles. 

A Varied Professional Journey

My professional journey has been dynamic: I started working in 2011 as a resident advisor, and next worked as a nutrition and diet expert. I come from a clinical background and moved into healthcare technology later. When I was first given the opportunity to work in project management, I did not have the formal education to be successful. 

I looked for courses that I could complete remotely as I live in a rural town and could not drive into the city every weekend. After much research and thought, I chose Simplilearn as it provided a lot of value for the money. It was also very convenient for me, considering my transportation limitations. 

I then joined Steward Healthcare Network in 2020 as a project manager, which has been a great experience for my career.

I have worked in the drilling and mining industry for 22 years. I’m originally from Zimbabwe, but my work takes me to India, Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana, and many other places around the globe. I’ve been stationed in Congo for the past two years, working as an expat technical support coordinator at Sandvik Mining & Construction. I enrolled in Simplilearn’s Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Course because I wanted to upskill myself, get out of my comfort zone and improve my work. The skills I acquired through Simplilearn are proving beneficial. The course showed me methods to measure company performance, pinpoint issues, and help solve those issues. 

I also received a 25 percent salary hike and new projects after completing the course. The experience prompted me to refer three colleagues to take the course from Simplilearn. 

A Talent for Team Building 

I have been managing, building, and training teams throughout my career, and I have a team of general supervisors and shift supervisors reporting to me. My job is to provide project support with on-site equipment and train local workers. As a technical support coordinator, one of my roles is to help others upgrade their skills and teach them how to accomplish tasks properly. 

Building teams is what I do. In a prior role, I began a project with five people and grew the team to 45 people. While managing a project in a remote mine in Botswana, we started with five workers and developed it into a 60-worker team. The project turned out to be a huge success.

Simplilearn Improves Presentation and Technical Skills

After completing Simplilearn’s course, I have improved my presentation and technical skills. We face a lot of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) challenges, such as performing root cause analysis, managing performance through data, and improving the relationship between the client and the OEMs. Because of the skills I acquired while taking this course, I now can understand work processes much better and start implementing new ways of working on completing day-to-day tasks.

My overall experience with Simplilearn was excellent. Initially, I thought the course would be challenging, but because of the comprehensive material and proper training, I found the course accessible and easy to complete.

I am Anjali Dhir from Delhi, India. Being a customer service representative in American Express for most of my career, I had a curiosity about how things worked in the background. This inquisitiveness often made me question people involved in developing the technical side of our work. Over the years, I efficiently led many projects around automation and innovation and proved my mettle. One of my managers told me to go for a Lean Six Sigma Certification so that I could officially develop my skill around it and change my field altogether.

Preparing for the Certification With Simplilearn

It was a truly rewarding experience. When I was looking for Lean Six Sigma preparation courses, I came across Simplilearn. It was during my research that I found multiple positive Simplilearn reviews, and when I saw the course, I knew this was it. The course was really comprehensive and was offering so many things at a low price. It was both useful and flexible at the same time. The combination of live classes and self-learning videos was bliss as I could use my free time to study rather than compromising on my work hours.

The Impact

I completed the course and bagged the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification. The Green belt with Simplilearn has been the best decision ever. I got a switch on completing the certification and a 60% salary hike in my new position as a Client Success Specialist at Gartner. Presently, I am working in a position that gives me exposure to both my previous field, allowing me to take up projects alongside. It’s a delight to follow my passion, interest, and responsibilities at the same time.

I am a project analyst in the Jamaican government’s housing assistance department. Providing housing assistance involves numerous steps between land procurement and delivering home ownership to beneficiaries. My job was to evaluate a better way to manage the process.

I decided to take Simplilearn’s Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Course because it teaches how to organize processes. I hold a Master of Arts in communication for social and behavior change from the University of the West Indies, and I knew I would benefit from Simplilearn’s online course. 

After taking the course, I could better segment the processes and address problem areas. When the pandemic hit, our department moved the documentation process online. However, we could not keep track of all the documents, which ultimately caused delays. So, I applied the Lean Six Sigma methodology to solve the problem. The course helped me manage time easily and deliver output promptly. 

My overall experience with the course was excellent. I am not very confident using statistics, and Simplilearn’s Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Course helped me understand them.

When I realized that I needed a career change, I took action by taking courses in Simplilearn’s Quality Management Training to build my talents and marketability.

I received a Bachelor’s of Applied Science from Digvijay College, Rajnandgaon, and completed my Master’s in Retail Management at the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. I started my career in business process outsourcing (BPO) at Infosys. But I soon discovered that I wasn’t satisfied with the workload and irregular shifts, and decided to switch to an information technology (IT) role.

I started my career in nontechnical roles, but like every industry, there were pros and cons, and I preferred more technically evolving roles. So I decided to polish my skills and choose a more satisfying career path. To do that, I had to upskill. I began shopping for training courses to gain ITIL® and PMP® certifications.

Working at a startup isn’t easy. We have to set up so many processes, understand the drawbacks of each, and come up with solutions. Having earned my MBA in 2009 in finance and marketing, I had a cursory knowledge of quality management methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma. A few years after starting my career at Ezetap Mobile Solutions Pvt. Ltd, I realized that by harnessing the power of a proven business process methodology, I could greatly improve my own output.

I did extensive research to determine which methodology was right for me, and then read reviews before choosing a program. I decided that Lean Six Sigma was the ideal methodology not only for my current role, but also future endeavors. I chose Simplilearn’s program because of its positive reviews and my assessment of what would be the right fit.

Even though startups typically require long (and sometimes odd) hours, I was able to complete Simplilearn’s Lean Management Certification Course without compromising my work at Ezetap. A few months after receiving my certification, I was promoted to a senior-level role and given a 20 percent raise. Encouraged, I decided to press ahead and enrolled in Simplilearn’s comprehensive Lean Six Sigma Green Certification Training. I achieved my internationally-recognized certification in September 2019.

I have a Master’s degree from Rutgers University in machine learning and another from Northwestern University in cognitive science. I’ve worked for Schwab, Delta, and Blue Shield of California, introducing metrics, measurements and process changes for increased productivity. But my career needed a boost and I wanted a leadership role.

I was working in quality, but without a certification. Simplilearn helped move my career forward when I pursued Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training to prepare for the IASSC certification exam. When researching how to prepare for my certification exam, I chose Simplilearn in part because it is affiliated with the Project Management Institute (PMI) as a registered partner. This meant their training was in alignment with PMI concepts, so it would be aligned with my other certifications. 

I also liked the format offered by Simplilearn, which offers interactive webinar courses and maximum flexibility for balancing work and life. It was easy to choose the times and durations that would fit with my work and home commitments. In addition, the format was interactive which made it more effective. Being able to engage with instructors during the sessions made it feel like a classroom environment, but in my home office!

Once I started on the coursework, I discovered the high quality of the content, as well. The level of the instructors was top-notch and their passion for their field came through. In addition, the lessons learned were immediately applicable to my job. The course was filled with real world examples, and students were encouraged to share their experiences. The instructor worked us through potential solutions that we could take back and immediately put into practice.

It wasn’t just about listening to the material being presented. The value really came from the instructor’s wealth of experience and presenting real-life examples of the concepts they taught. It’s one thing to learn how to create metrics. It’s another to hear a story of a problem, the metrics and measurements created to solve the problem, and the results—which could be failure or success. 

I also appreciated being able to download links so I could go back and listen again to certain material, and use those downloaded links as reference.

After earning my certification, I became a Senior Project and Quality Program Manager at Blue Shield, providing oversight with a focus on streamlining efforts and increasing performance. I build and implement quality standards and metrics for the Project Management Life Cycle (PMLC), streamline processes for moving projects through the PMLC faster, and establish the “Customer’s Voice” to create a continuous improvement cycle with other project managers. I also combine quality metrics with User Acceptance Testing practices, serve as lean process expert to improve the product pipeline, and have built a high performance onshore/offshore team to procure and install new cloud technology.
