I am from Kolhapur, Maharashtra, and am currently based out of Bangalore. I work with Duxes Labs as a Data Analyst. Coming from a Mechanical Engineering background, it was difficult to get a job in the IT field, so I initially took an operations job with Flipkart, where I worked for a year. Later, I became a Senior Operations Executive at Swiggy and worked there for almost two years. I wasn’t satisfied with my career growth or salary, though, so I decided to switch fields. I wanted to work in Data Science.

I searched online, found Simplilearn, and enrolled in their Data Analyst Master’s program. I felt Simplilearn’s curriculum was best suited for my needs. I liked that it was co-developed with IBM. The pricing of the course was less than the competitors, and the course covered more content. As a working professional, I was able to take evening classes and study on weekends and weekdays after work hours. The course also had good ratings. All of this helped me make the decision to enroll.

The instructors were great and made the course very interesting. The classes were interactive, which made the learning process smooth. I received constant guidance for projects. In addition to teaching technical content, the course helped me in my personal growth by helping me develop my communications skills. If I had questions or doubts, they were always cleared up in class.

After finishing the course, I left Swiggy and actively looked for a job in Data Science. After two months and several interviews, I finally got hired by Duxes Labs as a Data Analyst, with a salary hike of 65 percent. I feel that Simplilearn’s certification played a key role in my getting the job. With everything being on the cloud these days, cyber security has become a promising field for creating your career. This coupled with the fact that cyber security is a great interest of mine, I was propelled to build a career in cyber security.

I had over 20 years of experience in the technology industry and was working at Dell Technologies as a client solutions director. Working with multiple clients, the one common trend I saw was the growing need for cyber security along with its infrastructure, which created the need for well-versed subject matter experts like me.

The Plan for Moving Forward

I started my journey with Simplilearn in 2019, when I completed a course in Project Management. Like many other students, I was also looking for options to supplement my current practical knowledge with a technical education.

I chose this program which offered modules from MIT, and since I had already taken some previous courses through Simplilearn, I was confident of the quality of content and teaching experience.

Project management skills were important for me to navigate the world of cyber security with more confidence, such as managing the scope and budget for projects, assessing risks, and managing projects day to day.

To become a more valuable resource, I also took Simplilearn’s Post Graduate Program in Cyber Security, and the Project Management Professional (PMP®) course to help gain both theoretical and practical knowledge to better guide my clients.

Cyber Security in the Real World

In my opinion, a successful cyber security course is one that starts with the basics of security and helps learners prepare for the real world and also enhance their career prospects. This is why Simplilearn’s Bootcamps were perfect for me to grow further in cyber security and my career.

I live in Pune, Maharashtra, with my family. After 11 years+ of working as an Assistant Professor in an Engineering college, I felt my career was stagnating. I wanted to move from teaching to the corporate field. Friends and colleagues cautioned me to not be too ambitious, but I was interested in Data Science. I knew I had to upskill and started looking for Data Science courses online.

For me having clear career goals has always been important. It helps me understand what I need to aim for and how my journey is going to start. I always found Analytics fascinating, things you can do with data is amazing. My journey isn’t a traditional one at all.

While working at Accenture, I wanted to try for a role in analytics, but I didn’t have the heart to pursue my dreams because I didn’t have the necessary background. My amazing managers at my company encouraged me to take courses and acquire new marketable skills.

After extensive research and comparing different learning options, I found Simplilearn which offered courses that were more comprehensive, had a great variety of offerings and had an easier learning path. Plus, Simplilearn also offered the online flexibility I needed for his current work schedule.

A lot of people dream about being able to start their own business, I am also one of these people. My career goal was set from day one, I always wanted to start my own IT consultancy firm in my homeland. My entire journey was to fulfill this ultimate goal.

I have always been the man with a plan. With over 23 years in the IT industry, I knew that staying abreast of the industry’s developments is key to advancing my career toward my goal.

Finding New Opportunities

I moved to Saudi Arabia from Pakistan in 2003, searching for better job opportunities. I started my career as a consultant and moved to project management and IT service management. Currently, I am working at a public company that provides infrastructure and software as a service to other ministries.

Every ministry has its own setup and IT department. The Saudi Government is planning to centralize the IT services across the ministries. I am currently working for the central entity as a part of ITSM. They are currently using ITIL v2, and my job here is to upgrade the systems to ITIL v3 and later to v4.

Gaining Marketable Skills With Simplilearn

My skills are highly valued because there are very few ITIL 4 professionals in the market where I’m from. However, this also means that I must constantly keep my skills updated to include new and improved technologies. That’s why I have been taking online courses to keep upskilling.

Simplilearn has been a big part of that journey because it has been my go-to for upskilling. I started with one course and fell in love with it. To date, I have completed 16 professional certifications through Simplilearn online bootcamps and recently completed ITIL 4 Managing Professional Transition Module Training and MSP® Foundation & Practitioner Certification Training. After receiving my ITIL 4 certificate, I even got a new job at a public company in January 2021, along with a 15% salary hike.

I am maintaining a pace of earning one certificate per year. I realized very early that in the IT field, I need to upskill. Otherwise, I will be left behind. In the next five years, I want to move back to my hometown in Pakistan and start my own IT consultancy firm. I am sure these certificates will help me in achieving my goals.
